Hi,

I purchased a new Mercedes steering wheel off eBay for $1000. My concern is that it might be fake. From the online dealer it is $2,200 which is about a thousand less than from my local dealer. I haven’t received it yet. It looks exactly like the real ones and the seller says it came straight from Mercedes. Any thoughts?

its a used wheel. youre not going to pay msrp on a used item. personally i wouldnt pay over 500 usd for that and even thats pushing it.

I think it might be real. I've had some odd situations of purchasing genuine parts at greatly reduced prices. If it were me, I'd put it on a small scale--like a kitchen or mail scale--and see if they weigh the same. If it were fake, the numbers would not be the same as surely a Chinese copy would have used different materials.

in addition the part number sticker is showing clear signs of wear. wheel itself looks to be in good shape. based on the leather it was reupholsted as thats not the original leather.
with that said the price isnt to bad. ebay has untouched wheels in the 3-400 range

Why would you spend $1000 on a new steering wheel for a 10+ year old car, unless maybe it was a 10,000 mile garage queen? And if it was a 10,000 mile garage queen, why would it need a new steering wheel? I bought this one on Ebay last year for $120 and you can find them in the Pick&Pull for like $25.

Maybe because some of us like taking care of our cars? For example, you will never see my car without floor mats and dirty like the one above but you maybe completely fine with it. Different strokes for different folks

That's fine, but to me, spending $1000 for something when an identical part that is 95% as nice costs $100, isn't the best use one's money. Just a personal opinion and you do what feels right.
