Air Compressor

2011 S550 4matic - I replaced the struts, valve body, and compressor last August, 2023 with new Arnott parts from Rock Auto at 146K miles. Everything was OK but I thought with the miles I had that I would replace everything before I had a failure. I strut failed soon after installation and was replaced. 2 weeks ago at 153k miles the Suspension Malfunction light came on and the front sagged and would not pump up. Took it to my Indy and he replaced the Arnott valve body and the codes were corrected but the front would not lift. Checked the compressor and it was only putting out 4 bars of pressure. Fortunately I had kept the original compressor and had him reinstall it. Front came up and it's working well again. Arnott has sent me a replacement compressor but I am reluctant to use it since it lasted less than a year. I have already spent $1,500 reinstalling their junk parts. My question is who makes a good compressor? On FCP Euro they have AMK - $378.00; Bilstein - $424.00 and a Mahle - $833.99. I saw a rebuilt Mercedes OEM unit for about $450.00. I can't find a new original MB unit, they are all rebuilt.
Obviously I will never but Arnott junk again.

Thoughts? Advice?

Yeah Arnott is definitely junk. I would go for Mercedes Reman.

Thanks - the Arnott from Rock Auto is under warranty but it went bad in 10 months. Although the part is covered under warranty I'm still out the installation costs.

I would not bother with them on any of their products. Don't like to do the jobs more then once. Unfortunately their reputation is not the greatest just like you found out. I always go for Mercedes Remanufactured straight from the dealership. Be that for struts, valve body or compressor. Once and done.

Yep, Arnott is bad. My shop was replacing a leaking strut and not one but two Arnotts in a row were bad. They gave up and ordered me a brand new Mercedes one for no increase in price because of the delay.

There used to be a time over a decade ago where I used arnott and never looked back. It's sad that the quality is hit and miss, they still have certain solutions that lasts and make sense but most of the qc has gone out the door. I would say good used oem unit is still a better gamble if your looking at cost savings.

I haven't looked, but I wouldn't think that would matter. Are they indeed different compressors?
