Custom powdercoat wheels
Hello,
As I am awaiting for my car to be completely repainted I decided to redo the wheels. It’s my luck that the color I pick is very difficult to do for many different shops. That said the wheels have very tiny black dots that don’t look terrible in person but do look much work in pictures. I am suppose to go see the wheels in person to decide if I want to just keep them as is or redo them in a different color. Let me know what you guys think. I don’t think they look terrible.. here is also a link which shows this car is a pain in the butt to do.

I am only looking at the pix but there seem to me to be too many of these black speckled defects. What did they charge you? Maybe get them to discount it a little or simply respray/repowder. I hate substandard work at full price.

It’s the shop it’s the actual color I picked. I included the forum post from a random place that said they all had issues with doing that particular color. I got them powdercoated for $500

I like them , they look cool . The color is also very subdued and refined too .

That's a tough one. I don't know if I'd be happy with that. I might consider touch up paint if there weren't too many of them. If that worked, great. If it didn't, I think I'd want a respray. When I go for projects like that, the cost isn't an issue, so whatever it takes to get it right.

I would agree with you but the color is the issue as I called 3 other places and they said the same issue they will have as well.. so I might need to change the color

Try touch-up paint.

they took on the job - if it was going to be troublesome / they have no experience, they shouldn't have accepted the job
I'd pay $200 or get them done properly - that said, if Merc OEM wheels they'll need redoing in 2 years anyway

So I saw the rims in person they didn’t look terrible but unfortunately the fact remains that they aren’t perfect and even owner of the shop told me. I have used this shop several times and I trust him. I decided that I would pick another color and have him redo it.

Update on powdercoated wheel color
So after a few days of thinking about the color I wanted to do my wheels I decided on Kingsport Grey with a high gloss finish. It’s not flashy at all and almost an oem color but once it’s on the car that has been repainted black the contrast should look nice. This is only a picture of the color I picked and not my actual wheels.

Ohh well I loved the first color but unfortunately the place said it was an issue to get the black dots out so I picked the second color. As far as the difference in color is that the first one had a chrome like finish and also was lighter color. The second color is darker and doesn’t have the chrome like finish. I may try another shop with my set of rims that are on the car now that are black to get them redone in the first color.

Thank you for the excitement. So I will probably be picking it up the car in 2 weeks as I said. My target date is September 4th. By then I will have enough time to pick it up. This the third car I’ve had painted . My first car was a 1997 Porsche Boxster and then a 2001 Mercedes E55 amg. Both cars were silver and about a year after getting them totally repainted and sorted I ended up selling them lol. I don’t believe this will happen with this car as I like it too much.
