P0025 – "B" camshaft position timing over retard bank 2

Hello everyone,

Receive the this error message (P0025 – "B" camshaft position timing over retard bank 2) when I went to smog my 2007 S550

I purchased a camshaft positioning sensor but I don't know where to install it.

I did some research on the board and downloaded 3 files listed below but I'm unable to determine which sensor I am supposed to replace…

Need help determining where to replace sensor

Install solenoid camshaft left.pdf
install solenoid camshaft right.pdf
2012070002.pdf

Does the photo demonstrate bank B? (Passenger-side)

Is the sensor that needs to be replaced. Indicated with an arrow on the lower left side of the picture?.

Could someone kindly chime in with confirmation or suggestions.

Thank you.

Regards,

its a mercedes so don't expect any logic in how they threw it together and named things

bank B ought to mean cyls 5 to 8

as the oil filler is by cyl 1 this ought to be bank A

and don't forget its a quad cam engine so 4 sensors 2 x inlet and 2 x exhaust

if the chocolate idle has gone that might mean why bank B is of its timing - so be prepared for some really bad news...

Hello again,

Requesting further clarification and guidance:

I'm in a state of confusion about a few things. Please help me clarify:

The above picture demonstrates error code P0025 as being located on drivers side of the engine.

I'm aware that there are 2 cam positioning sensors on each head 1 for the exhaust and 1 for the intake

I'm a little confused with the verbiage used in the published procedure to remove/install solenoid camshaft
exhaust camshaft hall sensor
exhaust camshaft is solenoid

My plan of attack is to replace exhaust cam positioning sensor (hall sensor) and Variable Valve Timing Solenoid (exhaust camshaft solenoid) on the driver side in the lower position

As demonstrated in the picture above.

Am I making the correct assumption?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration with helping me solve my dilemma

Regards,

F-16 driver

the early cars did have an issue with dodgy readings and leaking oil

so there were later sensors and as the ones you have might be originals, or by now 12 years old anyway, new sensors all round isn't a bad idea - then see if things behave better
I can't see much value in just doing one side....

I'm not sure.... there was a 2008 engine management ECU update - I think one element raised the threshold of cam timing weirdness before throwing its teddies - that and a gearbox update should have gone on the car way back when - but worth checking - those two usually got done but dealers never bothered with ANYTHING else

essential others
heater buttons faulty (REST never worked)
all fours door modules, thermal trip too low and doesn't reset so the windows just stop working
comand system (big 2008 update - never done in the UK, not sure about anywhere else - dealers no longer undertake it, so I gather)

re the other can bits can't you just buy the 4 current cam sensors parts - and fit what they give you - by the way supposed to be a short link wire between the loom and the sensors to discourage oil leaking by - that's what the first PDF is on about - was meant o be free parts and fitting

Just do all of them...if they have not previously been done, they will need to be soon. Parts are cheap for this and it is a pretty easy job.
