V12 with ABC pump knocking, but not throwing errors

Getting an intermittent knock coming from the ABC tandem pump on the V12. The pulley looks like it has a bit of a wobble. Any thoughts on if I should change the pulley or the whole pump?

Currently ABC works fine, no warnings on the dash or on SDS. The pulsation dampener was just replaced with OEM.

Replace the whole pump. The wobble means the internal bearing is failing, and just changing the pulley won't fix that. Do it now before it fails completely.

With Alexie ^^^
Replace it ASAP.
I've had luck with a cheap ABC pump from these guys in Poland (i paid about $300) but YMMV and do your own research:

check the video of the aux drive belt failing - and the car ingesting the belt via the bottom crank pulley and DESTROYING the entire engine

then he gets to the end and says its quite common - especially if the belt is a bit oily

This is the one thing imho is worth buying OEM. While it would probably be fine going with a rebuilder, the consequences are too big if something fails and shrapnel gets sent through the ABC system. I'm doing a rebuilding project this winter of my system including pump, lines, struts and other stuff while I'm in there. I've been watching the OEM pump go in and out of stock--currently out. I've been collecting parts for a couple months and bought a pump recently. I guess I'd also trust the place in Germany that specializes in ABC--can't remember the name now but could find it if needed.

It's possible that they are only available from MB on a refurbished basis and that they refurbish them in batches.

There's an official used parts centre in Germany...

https://usedparts.mercedes-benz.de/startseite/

Worth checking every so often if you're after something specific. The folding towbar on mine came from here, for example.

I would remove the belt and inspect for any abnormal movement/wobble with the pulley. The pulley itself shouldnt wobble since it looks like a basic pulley, the shaft on the pump would be wobbling. Unless the bolts holding the pulley on came loose.

I would expect a grinding or other consistent noise and not a intermittent knock. Im having trouble picturing what the :knock" sounds like though.

No codes/warnings, no leaks, and suspension working fine.

Replacement pumps are available easy enough, around $400 for remanufactured off eBay, new aftermarket around the same price, or remanufactured from a Mercedes parts supplier or places like Pelican and FCP though they are over $1,000. If the listing for FCP is correct they have it and with there lifetime warranty seems like a good deal. Other remans have 2yr warranties.

Heres an interesting thread on rebuilding the pump though doesnt seem to address knocking noises: https://mbworld.org/forums/cl55-amg-...res-steps.html

Your theory about MB making them in batches makes sense...explains the going in and out of stock. I bought mine, and immediately it went to unavailable. But I've checked periodically and seen this happen before. I think there are a couple MB part sellers on Ebay with pumps. Here is the shop in Germany that specializes in ABC..they probably do it as well or better than MB...https://abcteile24.de/en/produkt-kat...tem/abc-pumpe/

Hi, first, thanks for the fast replies,

So do you know the correct O-ring size for the hydraulic lines that goes into the valve block. I only found the green ones part number and size (8.2x1.78). I cant seem to find the upper ones (black and white).

Is there a preferred ebay vendor for these pumps?

There are at least two actual MB dealers that sell parts on Ebay including MB of Warwick and MB of Farmington. I've bought from both of them and had good experiences. They seem to sometimes have parts on the shelf that others do not. All other sellers of ABC pumps that are not MB dealers need substantial scrutiny.
