The trip computer mileage you can reset on the main mileage display is different than the “from reset” mileage display. I reset both at the same time. Why is this?
there is the overall odometer - storing the total distance the vehicle has covered - without factoring fiddly fingers or replacement with secondhand parts (this is also stored in a number of other components and where legit all should match).
then you have two separate trip recorders you can reset independently - these record the current trip and carry on counting again for this trip if you do key out for less then x (about 2 hrs)
if you never reset the display of the short term trip you are using (1 or2) - as shown below the odometer - it will be a cumulative result for ave mpg and distance etc.
