I would really appreciate some help from anyone out there. I have a 2013 Mercedes W221 350 petrol. The doors cannot be opened with the emergency key. The car has been sitting in the garage for at least 2–3 months, and both batteries have been newly purchased. That means I can’t open any door. Does anyone have an idea how to open the door? Thank you

You have to turn the key and immediately pull on the handle.

I have tried several times, but the pin that you can see inside hardly moves. I never had any problems before. However, since the battery is dead and it is cold outside, it is simply not possible. Even though I turn the emergency key, nothing happens.

If it’s below freezing try some lock defroster.
these mechanical locks never get used so oil and water gums and freezes.

As per the owners manual...

Insert key turn it towards the rear of the car and leave it there. Then repeatedly pull the handle.

It will unlock even if the button doesn't lift up.

Or.... OP batteries are dead?

The hood release cable can be accessed via the left front fender liner in front. Not pleasant but this way you can release the hood and power up the car via the power point under the hood. Then see if with a fresh fob battery it wants to play.

Why go to that hassle when you can open the car with the key and simply pull the lever designed for that very purpose?

Battery condition is totally irrelevant.

Reading and comprehension fail on your part? I’ll refer you to post three toward the top of this thread.

I hope that OP has already managed to open the car.

I can read and understand.

The lock is totally mechanical. It categorically does NOT require electricity to unlock. I know this because when you leave the car for a length of time it goes into a hibernation mode and the remote locking is one of the first things to shut down.

The following video is on my own car, just to prove the point.

As you can see, the button doesn't pop up instantly and you have to operate the handle about 20,000* times more than you think you should.

@JohnLane You can apologise once you've watched it 😘

*Obviously exaggerated to emphasise the point. (Feel free to substitute the 's' for 'z' if actual English isn't your first language)😂.

The procedure is great IF IT WORKS.

We haven’t heard back from OP so perhaps it worked.... Perhaps he fixed the car with fire.... Perhaps he went to live somewhere warm where door locks don’t freeze. Of course once thawed there is no guarantee the lock cylinder will turn. Being unused for years whilst being slowly digested by road salt that get in them.

Neener!

He didn’t mention that his garage is heated. Much of the country being blessed with the current fourth season that is what it is.

Door locks in my car sound and behave much different when the car is frozen. They are working to unlock the door. Sedona was beautiful but cold. Glad to be back in the valley.

Just pulling on the handle won't unlock the car. You have to turn the key and immediately pull the handle.

Indeed. Be a pretty crappy lock otherwise 😂

You'll note that the key in the video is already turned...

You have to turn AND quickly pull. Not turn the key then pull multiple times.

That may be your experience, the video is mine.

QED: Turning the key and pulling the handle repeatedly obviously opens the door. As the video demonstrates.

Shouting doesn't make it any less so.

Another take, just to prove that the key was inserted, turned and the handle pulled repeatedly to unlock and open the door.
