rear head rest

hello all,

i was wondering if some one could help me please...
i have a 2007 w221. The rear head rests are stuck in an upright position. The switch in the central console does not do anything. To complicate matters when i put the key in ignition or open the door, i hear a humming noise from rear seat are as if a motor is working.

The stealer picked my car...could not even hear the hum!
but for even taking the rear seat they want £180!

I had a look thru the forum..got some info...but i cannot find any screws or bolts above the central arm rest to take it apart.

could somebody guide me please?

What kind of rear seats do you have, option 223 etc?

Everything else working fine?

not sure...sorry.
but it is just standard. The rear seats are fixed with no option to move or heat. The rear headrests were supposed to move down with the press of the button in the central console.

yes everything else is working fine.

i had a comand upate last year as well.

The humming you hear is likely the AirMatic pump. I hear this too. Try to pull the headrests slightly forward while someone presses the release button. This will release the tension against the lock. This may allow the release to kick out. Sometimes they can stick a little bit.

Thanks for all the reply.
I will try all the suggestions.

The humming noise is a strange one. When i open the front doors it starts...and lasts for less than a minute. It only happens if i open the front doors and not the rear. it certainly cones from the rear seat.

That definitely sounds like the airmatic pump. It only starts when the front doors are opened.

Do you have multicontour seats? I had same issue years ago, w/ the rear headrests.

Out of warranty, I tolerated for awhile. Indi mechanic cleared fault code(s) for the multicontour option and when I hit the release button on the console, the headrests dropped immediately. The two "adapters", as they are called, in each front seat were blown.

I did not immediately repair, but I at least was not looking at the two rear headrests through the mirror. The two issues seemed intertwine in my case.

BUT, I first would locate the fuse box area associated w/ the headrests and check them. Surely the least expensive elimination.

Good luck.

no I do not have the multicontour seat.

I took the head rests out as suggested, put it back, but still no change.
The dealer tried to reset the system, but no help.
I will check the fuse as well.

sorry, but where is the fuse box located? thanks

Did you find the problem with rear headrest? Where is the fuse for them?
