Thinking of a SICK Combo...

I probably shouldn't entertain any thoughts of changes to my order but I just thought of a combo that could be really SICK (at least it is in my head)............. Porcelain/Black Exclusive Nappa with the Metalized Ash Wood.....

I have yet to see a car pic on the web with this build, but when I put it together on MBUSA, it looks breathtaking!

What you guys think? Should I entertain this thought? Anybody ever seen this combo? Right now I have Silk Beige Exclusive Nappa with Sunburst Myrtle.....nice.....but is it too safe....

I am getting the Porcelain/Black already as I am more concerned about keeping the carpets clean but regarding the wood, my thought was there was too much pattern or the grain in the picture above. The burl walnut or the design ash look more like wood. You have to really like the pattern and color of the wood to go with the Metalized Ash Wood. Exclusive trim with the darker wood against the Porcelain dash should look quite good.

I know you have written prior posts on how much you like the way the darker wood looks.

But, in the end, if you like it (and as importantly the wife likes it ), then it sounds fine.

So you think the black poplar wood would work better with the porcelain/black? Or the burl walnut?

Keep in mind I cannot avoid the confirmation bias in what I say here, but I was actually thinking of the brown wood colors. I have burl walnut on order (with exclusive trim) now, but I was thinking of the Sunburst Myrtle. They are both brown. I think the black wood is the same as the gray ash in that it will not be as timeless. Let's see if this works. I included links to the three others here:

After seeing the three, I'm staying with the burl walnut as the pattern is more classic wood trim. Just my opinion though.

Yeah, you're right. The burl walnut does look timeless. And then on top of that, what if the reality of these other wood combos aren't nearly the same as the pics. Could be at risk for a disaster...

The reason I chose sunburst with my current order is to have that wood on the back of the front seat. If they would do that with burl walnut, I would have chosen that hands down.

Now I'm entertaining having dark floors due to dirt staining. And I like the way there is contrast in the car vs the whole interior being the same color. Man I wish I could see these combos in person. But I'm stuck with internet pictures on making critical decisions.....

I've seen the metalized ash wood. It's very bright and not subdued at all.

Thanks for the pics LovinMercedes!!! My wife says the ash looks like we're "platinuming" out the car.....lol.....whatever that means.

This is a very risky move, a gamble that could pay off big or bad, a setup that probably no one would create, nor would you find any pics on the internet. but for some reason I don't want to play it safe anymore getting the typical stuff. I may just take the jump into the porcelain with ash.....

Oh God.....someone better stop me and bring me to my senses......LOL!

I've had the porcelain and actually, got more compliments on that interior than any other interior. That had the piano black wood. It was gorgeous.

Believe it or not I understand your wife's description and I actually think she is correct. The wood looks much stronger in person than it does in the pictures. It is much brighter than the pictures are showing.

Do it!! It'll be very unique....your car is for you, not for others to like, IMO.

That's what I'm hoping for. If it is strong and bright, then it will play off the black very well. Because the way MB has done the porcelain setup is to line the wood in the midst of the black, not in porcelain areas. This could prove to be magnificent if my thinking is correct......

That's also my thinking! I can't think of anyone in the U.S doing this combo. There's a chance I'll never see myself when looking at other S classes. I'll be unique!

Well I made the pull. My dealer said she's out for today and would look into it tomorrow. I'm excited I'm trying something risky....

Hope there's no delay, but we'll see......

A Mercedes obviously!
I guess it depends on if you're planning on buying/leasing but one thing to consider with riskier options is resale. A nearby dealer to me has had this S63 for more than 2yrs now! A guy ordered this designo version and by the time he took delivery he'd got divorced and didn't want the car any longer. I was at the dealer back in 2011 looking at a CL65 and the sales guy was desperate for me to try it out. Looks like it's had a few miles (3000!) put on it since then, probably been some dealer manager car or courtesy loaner if you're lucky!

Very true. I'm buying the car and plan on keeping it a long time, so resale is not a concern. Thanks for posting this pic of the past white designo........man MB has brought the interior up to a whole new level for the 222!!! I'm shocked by how vast the upgrade is! Go MB!.....

I have the black exterior (040), black exclusive nappa leather, black dinamica headliner, and exclusive trim in burl walnut. The burl walnut looks more reddish than the photos shown here or in the sales brochure; perhaps there is some color variation to the different options.

Good point. This means that all the woods are different in person. No way we can visualize the results unless we see it in person. And the chances of me seeing ash in person is slim to none.

Ash on black will pop unbelievably if that is what you are looking for. It is really bright and on black it will be so even more.

That's what I'm hoping for! With the porcelain interior, although the seats are white, most of the rest of the car is black and a lot of the ash will be lining in the black. And that should make it pop!

Quite honestly, it is the color I had configured even before you posted this thread!!! I am not a fan of regular wood grain, but I think the metalized ash looks awesome...

It's either that or plain aluminum, but I think this takes it up a notch!

If it were me, I would go ahead and modify your order before it's too late!

Order modification submitted and confirmed! Just got the notification from my dealer, and as it looks, there's no delay on this change.

So it's official now......and with no pics of this setup anywhere, really makes this risky as far as how it will look, but fun all at the same time!
