It's definitely a dark gray metallic. I wouldn't call it black at all. I could see how on a cloudy day that it may look black, but it really isn't. Still looks amazing from what I have seen thus far.

Sunlight definitely changes the appearance of Magnetite Black from steel gray in bright sunlight, to darker gray and even black in the evening/night.

I have the Disenio Mocca Black paint. It is interesting in the sense that it looks black all the time except in the sunshine and in that case you see a bit of coffee gold sort of color in the paint.

Obsidian Black Metallic

Here is a 2020 Obsidian black Maybach S650 and the Metallic elements in the color mix if you get close with direct light actually has quite a bit of blue in the paint mix as well as some gold and deep red and silver in the mix...truly a difficult paint mix...even the factory painted bumpers had some grey tone when compared to the paint on the metal as the material difference gave the paint different shades in different light.
Attached are some pics that I took with my Nikon to get some good detail of the car and the paint. This is the only 2020 Maybach S650 in the US with a Brabus 900 Appearance package. Brabus has no approval for the 900 Engine in the States, so this car was fit with the full exterior conversion. If anyone is interested in converting their standard S class to a Maybach, I have all the Factory Maybach parts listed in the Marketplace section, the front upper Grill w/Distronic, the front bumper, the rear bumper insert with the Maybach Exhaust tips, and the complete wheel and tire set with the TPM still installed. All parts are painted Obsidian Black.

Test drove a S63 in this Mocca Black color, very nice indeed............but in the end decided for Uni Black (020), real, dark black in every light condition (same black as some plastic diffusor elements). My previous one was in Obsidian Black, but was not dark/black enoug for my taste.

So, to the original poster, if you really like black...........consider Uni Black (020), with glasscoating for protection.

Ordered Selenite Grey - Having doubts

Just put a deposit on Selenite Grey. I kept seeing a very dark grey in passing and knew when it was time to order my next one, this is what I would get. Have never seen it up close and now I’m very confused with the pictures you all see posted of Magenite Black. Does anyone have any clear Selenite Grey pictures and opinions?

This is a Selenite Grey S63:

Thank you. I’m honestly torn. Thought it was a darker grey but maybe I’ve been seeing the car at night. I have a 17 Obsidian Black S550now, and wanted to get something a tad lighter.

Then Magnetite Black might be your choice (it is kind of Anthracit), like this one:
https://www.thijstimmermans.com/voer...nt-nachtzicht/

If you like dark but not black, then Canvasite blue might also be an option?
https://www.thijstimmermans.com/voer...et-nachtzicht/

[the repeated TT pics might be explained otherwise, but I am not related to them in any way; they always have a nice collection of high-end MB and AMG cars for sale in many colo(u)rs, so great place to compare!]

Designo Grey is a great color as well though I'm personally biased for it since it is my car's color (custom paint order).

While Ruby black looks ok with the body style I think it will drop the resale value as badly as the Almadine Black (same thing) on the W220.

If you don't like plain black, go for a Designo color (I used to have a mocha black, stunning color). Otherwise magnetite is actually very nice; just not a deep black.
Wolfman,

Why do think Ruby Black will drop the resale value. I am looking at a Ruby Black 2020 S560 here in SoCal.

Thx

I know that you asked Wolfman who will give you a better answer but here is my spin on it as somebody who also likes Ruby Black. It's kind of like manual transmission cars. The take rate is low because most people prefer other more standard colors, so in the used market you have a much smaller pool of people that are going to be interested in the car. Sure the ones that like it like it but the vast majority don't. The smaller pool of buyers will depress the resale price.

For what it is worth with my 2 cents.

Ruby Black is such a stunning color that I ordered both my 2016 S550 4matic and my 2019 S63 AMG in Ruby Black with Beige/Espresso interior. Absolutely stunning color combo. And yes I care about resale but I care more about the fact that I believe the color and color combo is absolutely stunning.

I used to have a Magnetite Black S class. I loved the color, but thought that the color looked different depending on the lighting. At night, it looked black. In bright sunlight, dark gray with a hint of green or even blue it seemed. The metallic paint has a tendency to make it look different.

Exactly right—this is the way the color on my Magnetite Black CLS “changes” with respect to the light. I happen to love it—especially as it gets darker to where it’s almost black. I don’t see too many cars with this color; do you think it’s fairly popular or not?

Agree Magnetite is a wonderful color. 2nd car this color and it always brings smiles. Had an Obsidian SL...it was ok but always looked “dusty”. Regretted not ordering non metallic black on that car.

For real dark black, go for UNI Black (020)!

Hey.....little known fact....Magnetite Black metallic is also called ( drum roll please ) "Black Pearl" ! Learned this when ordering touch up paint. And by the way, it does not show the dust as easily as pure black.

Unless I’m mistaken, the official MB color name does NOT have “pearl” in it. Magnetite is the “gray” element in the color scheme; and this is clearly gray...make no mistake about it. What a truly marvelous color. And yes, it does tend to hide dust and dirty better than black. Of course this doesn’t matter as at least 1 hr/day is spent wiping down and keeping her spiffy clean.
