I always forget about the headphones.....they do seem pretty nice.....also I think my remote is dead or something, or not synced up?
guess I should RTFM on that one
You would remove word "S550" in the rear. The car looks like an S600
Thanks, I am very proud of this car.
Having gone to Europe just recently, I noticed, especially in Germany, most of the Mercedes Benz cars there are debagged. I thought about debagging my car as several people have suggested it.
For me, it just didn't feel right. It didn't feel honest. I am happy with it being a 550 and I would not want to give anyone the impression of it being something it was not.
Just my feelings. I am sure others might feel differently. Interestingly, the rear of the car looks very nice and sleek being debagged, but in the US, it is just not a common thing.
That does look nice and sleek. I think in Germany, debagging is even a standard option.
I think the problem in my case, is the front grill. Debagging the car with the front grill I have, makes it look like I am trying to convince people it is a 600.
If I hadn't changed the front grill, I would have less of an issue debagging my car.

What a beautiful build! Congratulations on your new toy. Your patience has paid off and I hope that everything turned out as you hoped for.
The steering wheel design is a definite upgrade as well. Did the leather color and quality (feel, softness, smell, stitching) turn out as you hoped for?
Re. debadging; In Germany this is often done to not be judged by the model you drive. Showing off high-end models is often frowned upon (had that with business relations) and others like to appear that the have a larger model.
Either way, I think this is a non-issue in the US and not worth doing unless its an AMG and you like to have some fun racing.
I'm sorry and I hate to be the Grinch Who Stole Thanksgiving, but I just don't understand what all the hoopla is about. Here we have yet another black S550, but with a special order interior and a couple of other doodads. Just WHAT is the big deal? Anyone who wants to throw thousand dollar bills at their dealer can do the exact same thing. Anything that anyone with enough money can duplicate, is nothing special.
Just saw the post and replies to it. Streamliner, hope you realize that this is a pretty silly statement.
Clearly, customizing any car including a Rolls, Bentley or Ferarri is no big deal either. Anyone with money can do that too.
Point is that customizing Lovins S550 took more research, effort and patience on his side than if he would have purchased any of the cars listed above. Mercedes doesn't make custom builds that easy.
This can also be in no way be compared to your standard pick list order from the dealer/online that anyone else is doing.
It's cool to have one of a kind car even if due to interior/exterior options. Very subtle, classy and for him to enjoy.

How do you like it compared to your old W221?
Thanks. I am very happy with how the interior turned out. I think they did a great job on the leather and everything turned out as I had hoped.
I chose the Auburn Brown because I wanted a monotone car with the interior colors blending with themselves and with the exterior. I think that all turned out as well as could be expected and they all work together nicely.
So far, not too much time behind the wheel but my first, very quick impression, is that the drive is not too much different in terms of comfort. I am still trying to figure out if I feel the difference in the run flats, which I think I do.
I haven't played with the MBC and am just starting to learn about all the different electronics.
Certainly, custom interior or not, the fit and finish of the inside of the W222 is superior to the W221, in terms of plushness.
These cars we all drive are very fancy.

maybe , but how many people know the difference? not many I'm willing to bet
Some exterior pictures. Without the sun shining directly on the car, it is hard to see the brown in the Mocha Black. I'll take a few in the future, in direct sunlight.

So this is a little off topic, but I thought I would ask.
I was able to get the Rear Entertainment System working with the remotes and headphones with ease.
My car came with three remotes so I assumed one was for the front passenger. I did not order SPLITVIEW because of the resolution reduction, but I am now wondering if the remote will still work. It seems simple if you have SPLITVIEW and the instructions in the manual are very clear.
My question is, can you use the remote in the front passenger seat to change functions and music in the front command system without SPLITVIEW.
I wasn't expecting to be able to see a separate screen without SPLITVIEW but I thought one would still be able to use the remote on the front command.

Any help would be appreciated.
Yes you can use any of the remotes to adjust functions in COMAND. The little dial just needs to be on "COMAND" and then you can adjust anything that you can with the normal control knob.
I agree! I vote for the debadge too. Debadged ours the day it came home from the dealer.
Forgive my ignoronce, but how do you debadge, wht's involved, wht is the cost from your experience...???
I dont wanna hi-jack the tread so please pm me.

It's just double-sided tape. The lettering can easily be removed but I would use a professional to avoid potential damage.

Thank you very much. I got it working. User error, of course.
