Extended Warranty

Well, I went ahead and purchased the extended warranty. Erin Mahre at Mercedes-Benz of Santa Rosa took very good care of me. She was able to give me a nice discount on the 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Even Mercedes of Escondido would not budge off of MSRP but Erin was quite a bit under MSRP. I picked up the car 27 days ago so I needed to get it soon to avoid the Mercedes 15% surcharge.

I weighed the options including that I could most likely make 15% back over 4 years but I opted to get it now. After driving the car for two weeks and the different number of systems and options I have (almost all of them except the rear airplane seats and the 3D sound), I opted for the piece of mind versus playing the odds.

When you figure all the sensors and actuators on this car, you know something is going to wear out prematurely (and after 4 years I presume). I keep my cars a good long time so when it gets close to 100,000, I can decide if I want to make it a long-term classic car. I guess by that time actually driving will be optional.

I just thought I would share. Let me know if anyone wants Erin's information.

Tom, for better or for worse, I decided to not sign up for the extended warranty yet. What amazed me was that the finance lady I was speaking with did not pressure me at all to purchase the extended warranty. When I bought my 2008 LS 460L they were trying very hard to sell me the extended warranty. I didn't and that was the right decision for the LS. But you make good points about all the tech features on the S. I will have to see how it goes over the next 3-4 years with this marvel of a car.

Wow, that is odd. When Herbert's finance person called me she gave me the really hard sell for the warranty. She even told me I had to get it before I picked up the car in Sindelfingen. That is not true of course and she agreed with me. I got the hard sell on the tires, maintenance, warranty and the paint protection It was the only distasteful part of experience with Herbert's dealership. I would still do it again with Herbert though if it was a new model though for the extra 2% off but I digress.

I found Erin's name on this forum and she made it very easy and discounts everyone. When dealers compete, we win. The take away—and something I did not know before—is that you can buy the warranty and maintenance from any dealer you want. If everyone knew that, I suspect the prices would go down.

Until you just mentioned it, I had no idea I could buy the extended warranty from any MB dealer. That is great to know. Thanks Tom.

Hi Tom. can you please provide me Erin's contact information.
I bought my 2012 E350C on March 29th and I am in the process of purchasing the EW from a dealer in MN.
the best quote I have is 2 year for $2495. not sure if Erin can beat that price.

Thanks

Pre-paid maintenance is a good deal, better yet when it's discounted. The only caution is that it is neither refundable nor transferrable.

I found that out the hard way when our 2-3 months old SL was totaled last year due to water. Money down the drain...
