550 order questions

I'm specing out a 2015 S550 4matic at my dealer. I originally had planned to order an S63, but after driving the 550, I was surprised how well the 550 handled and how well it accelerated. I typically buy BMW M cars, and have not had an Mercedes since 2008 when my wife and I had an S63 and an SL63. My 2008 S63 handled great, but the interior was cheap and plastic looking for the most part. But the new S class is much improved in all ways, IMO. Looks better, more luxurious, electronic gadgets that boggle the mind, etc.
Anyway, my questions:
1. I plan to order the Porcelain/ black exclusive nappa leather. With this option, does one get the smooth leather everywhere in the cockpit, including the dash? I'm not wild about the pebbled looking leather. My BMW M6 has nappa everywhere in the cockpit.
2. Looks like split view is out due to decreases resolution? I like the almost retinal display I saw on the 550 yesterday.
3. Headsup is now an option. I love it on my BMW, but my dealer, didn't know much about it. Any thoughts?
4. Run flats. Looks like the 550 comes with them. The ride quality seemed fine to me, despite differing opinions in another thread. The S63 doesn't have run flats or a spare, like my M6.
Thanks

I think I can answer #3. From everything I have read here, HUD is available for the 2015 S550. I wish they had it available on the 2014 but that's the breaks.

The exclusive nappa leather option will give you the smooth leather on the dash.

I think the splitview is fine: I've only seen it from the drivers seat, but my wife says it was fine......guess now I'll have to get in the passengers seat to see the other side lol...
I didn't get my car with 20's, and got conti's.......(19's)
funny how the dealer knows little about HUD, but I'm not surprised, they never know much do they?

My dealer also doesn't know anything. And he worked at this dealership for many years and had a bunch of plaques. I had to explain everything to him.

He also tried to convince me to go with 4matic because he "doesn't know anything about the Magic Body Control".

Whatever. I just wish it was Late July/August already.

I have the porcelain/black. Just to warn you it is very light almost white. I had it in my previous S class and this one is much lighter. You have to be very careful about dirt.

Do you regret getting it? Full Black is an option for me as well.

I can answer that in my case I love it. I realize it may need a bit more care but I think the black on black is too dark and makes the cabin feel smaller. Of course, that's personal preference. Also, I only have 12 days in the car do far but I do like the look of the porcelain seats against the black carpets and the dark walnut.

I don't necessarily regret it but I can't recommend it either. The contrast looks great but it does look a little rapper-ish. My detailer will make out well on this car.

Tomshop, can you post some pics of your interior. I also ordered the porcelain, not realizing how white it will actually be.

I love the rasp of the of the AMG S63 exhaust note, but with the sport package the S550 has virtually the same look & footprint. I'm with you - I thought the S550 had sufficient acceleration for my needs.

I can address your question #4. I ordered my 2015 S550 4matic a few weeks ago. It's slated to be produced June 11th. I ordered the sports package with the 20" multispoke rims. Armed with the information and experiences of the members here, I lobbied hard with my salesperson & dealership to change out the run flats before I took delivery of the car. Although my car will take it's Atlantic voyage shod with runflats, the dealer will remove them and install the tires of my choosing before delivering the vehicle - cost neutral to me.

I did inquire if I could include the AMG variable exhaust on my build - I was told no. Anyone else try this & succeed ?

John

I tried to take pics but didn't think they were representative. Would try to see one at a dealer. Colors never come out correctly in pics.

My last car was a designo deep white interior when they made both the porcelain and the deep white interior colors. At that time, the designo porcelain was an off white and the designo deep white was white as white can be.

It sounds like the new porcelain may closer to my designo deep white as some have described it.

First, I put the MB leather protection on the inside and I never had a problem with any dirt even with a little dog.

Secondly, I never got more comments on a car than I did when I had that car. When I got my present car I can't tell you how many people went out of their way to tell me they liked the white one better. It was frustrating and I felt like but the facts were, everybody loved the designo deep white interior.

I also had the designo piano black trim which helped the contrast even further.

Good luck with your car. I bet you will get just as many compliments as I got with mine.

I've attached a few pictures for your reference.

I just looked at a S550 with exclusive nappa porcelain white/black/black poplar and it exactly matches our SL interior colors.
Very bright but clearly off-white. It's only thing that seems to make it dirty are dark jeans, but even that is easy to clean with just a damp microfiber. I like to stay away from too many chemicals

For what its worth, Mercedes states in their manual to NOT use microfiber on their leather.

Thanks for the info! I checked the printed manual just to find out that this info is listed only in the digital operators manual. Go figure

I have used microfibers for years and it has worked well, but I'll try out some other material.
