Hi All,

I've ordered a S350 Blu Tec on 7 Feb. this year. The vehicle was built in
March and is now on the vessel to South Africa for delivery during May. Expected delivery date was 05/05 but according to dealer the vessel hasn't arrived yet.

Now my question. The dealer gave me a very detailed configuration print out of the extra's I chose. One of the items specified is 805 Model Year (805). What does this mean? I've not been charged for this but it is listed together with the extra's I'm being charged for.

350 is a V6? I couldn't imagine this car without the 449HP

 

V6 unfortunately yes but I'm still very excited. Hope to upgrade in 3 yrs time.

 

The majority of S-class models outside the US are sold with smaller engines.
We are still spoiled with comparatively low gas prices.

 

We also don't pay tax on engine displacement as they do in other countries.

 

Plus the inability to insure the car. I remember insuring a 600 was almost impossible in Germany

Option code 805 refers to MY 2015. Every Mercedes has this 80x option code where the x refers to the last digit of the model year.

Not sure about South Africa but at least you had HUD, heated windscreen and touchpad options available for this MY while they were not for the previous MY. You should have media interface too (previously it was an option for the ROW market area).

I think MY 2015 production started early March while cars were released from May onwards.

 

How about the 2.2 litre I4 diesel engine? This one used to be available for the W221. The W222 currently has this engine only as a hybrid but will likely have the "standalone" four cylinder diesel later on. It wasn't even very rare in Europe with the W221 although not the most popular model even here.

Remember, price wise most European (or ROW market area) W212 owners are driving a more expensive car than the average W222 in the US. Often the small engines are for fuel economy but quite often it is a selection between S-class comfort and features at a compromised engine power against a "sufficiently powerful" W212.

Most of us are familiar with the traffic on both sides of the pond but despite no speed limits at German autobahns, engine power is less important on European roads than on US highways. Our highways are easy to join and even francoiszar's bluetec has its top speed limited to 250 km/h (160 mph), i.e. the same top speed as the S500 (S550) in Europe.

 

Thanks Diesel Benz. This is a bit confusing because the configuration says 805 but HUD and touchpad was not an option. Don't know why 805 was specified as part of the configuration if only 804 options were available. I'm not sure about the media interface but will check.

You must have ordered the car as a 2014 model. At some point all 2014 orders were changed to 2015 models (your car was produced after the last 2014 MY car was built). You would not get 2015 options without requesting those, most of the new options are not free anyway and your permission is needed (your commitment to pay for the extra features). You could have asked the dealer to add any 2015 options once the build date was know to appear at the MY 2015 range. This is what I did and got two 805 options (this car has not been built yet).

One could have assumed the dealer to ask the customer if he/she wants to modify the order but an average sales person is too lazy to do that.

 

Thanks very much, now I'm in the know as well. Yes I agree with you. The service I've experienced from MB salesmen/women over the last 12 years were appalling. I've tried more than once to complain to MB Head Office in SA but their customer care is also less than satisfactorily. They just keep referring you back to the dealer. If I had to buy the brand based on the service levels by dealers I would never ever buy a MB. This is the reason why they don't care much because they know MB clients buy a 'want' and not a 'need'. I really don't need a MB but I want it - and for that want one has to suffer bad service levels very often.
