You'll need the Driver Assistance Package to get the full set of abilities for the car to autonomously brake. However, there is something called COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST (COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS for MY2015) that comes standard on the S-Class. According to the description, it can detect vehicles and some stationary objects and then apply the right amount of braking power when the driver steps on the brakes. Would this system by itself work on people? Doesn't look like it.

Even with the Driver Assistance Package, I haven't exactly been eager to test out the emergency braking functions (or have found any willing, er, participants to test it on, for that matter).

So with the Driver Assistance Package if a pedestrian were to cross the path in front of the car at night would it break automatically? I think the Volvo City Safety feature is similar but it only works up to a certain speed.
