does MB charge to refill the fragrance bottles?
Has anyone tried any besides the Freeside Mood?
I have mine turned down to the lowest setting. I can definitely smell it when it's discharged. I don't like any strong fragrance.

They do unscrew. There's a plastic label that seals it closed but if you run your nail or a knife around it you can cut the seal. Or just turn really hard and it will break the plastic sticker. I also bought one that can be filled and compared the two and they are exactly the same except the pre-filled has the scent labeled on it and is sealed with a stick on piece of plastic. I hope this helps.
I haven't noticed anything yet but I've only driven a month around town since using it. I have the porcelain nappa so I'm going to watch for it. But I do plan to clean and condition the seats regularly.

SO...just called MBUSA and spoke to a product advisor and he told me that we can use any alcohol/water based cologne or perfume and it won't stain the interior or cause any damage or mess up the system. However, if you use oil based scents (such as eucalyptus), it has the potential to reduce the effectiveness of the system.
I guess I'm going to switch that horrible scent the car came with to one of my own choosing!

I for one really enjoy the fragrance system. I was a bit skeptical at first but was very surprised when I started using it. When I took delivery, the Freeside mood was included which has a great scent (almost like tea and flowers). I keep my setting on Medium (2) but sometimes turn the system completely off. I went ahead and ordered the remaining fragrances (Nightlife, Downtown, and Sports) so I'll let you guys know how those are.

Fireside is the one that comes with the car as far as I know. Mine certainly did. MB also provides 4 samples of the fragrances they have available. I will be emptying the fireside sample into the container that goes in the glove compartment the next couple days to last me a little longer. I am in the midst of a long driving trip to New England (Akron, OH now) with several stops on the way up and back.
By the time I get back to Des Moines in early October, the odometer reading will be between 10,000 and 11,000 miles. So, I'm hoping the small amount of fireside fragrance that's in the container now combined with the sample will last until I get back home. It will also be time for the first service appointment for which I have prepaid when I return home as well.

Any updates from those who have tried to refill canister with fragrance of their own? I'm curious if it just gives top notes, or using a good cologne gets the full effect.
Unsure if the originals are gel, if the refill with alcohol based scent would last as long, or evaporate and leach scent even when the car/system is off. Thanks in advance.

Hmm... Sriracha would be nice.
For those who want to make their own, I've been using SaveonScents.com for all of the fragrance crap we use at the office. Some of their stuff is quite enjoyable.
As far as scents in the car...eh...not my cup of tea. To quote my HVAC/R mechanic: Fragrances/scents are air pollution. If you smell that bad, take a bath! If the house smells that bad, clean it!
