Picking up 2015 S550 this week - Optional Bells & Whistles worth it?

I'm leasing a 2015 this week, as early as tomorrow, and I'm thinking of getting just the Sport package + 20" AMG multi-spoke wheels. All of the other packages seem like options that I'll never use. The only exception is the Keyless Go, but I'd have to get the entire P01 package with features that I don't need. Do you think that it's a bad idea to not get those options?

I use Distronic plus all the time. Love driving in town with it.

Thanks. That is a really cool feature, but again I doubt I'd use it given my typical commutes. I'm looking at a $103k car at $2100 drive-off and $1300 a month for 30 months and 10k miles a year. Will they go much lower than this? I keep hearing the last body going for $900 - $1k.

the new S has a lot of nice features: warmth and comfort is a good one, as is P1, the stereo is fantastic too, massage seats are nice too; not a fan of distronic, but I did try it on the demo car.......not sure about 20's (yet), never had them...

post some pics when it's done Doc

for a 103k MSRP, I got 30 months 10k miles a year for $2100 drive-off and $1300 a month. All the pricing I've received has been $2,000 to 4,000 below invoice, or about $10 - $12k off MSRP.

Obviously, some folks are looking merely for fine transportation with a new S. Others simply want the BLING effect of driving a new S. But others, like myself, feel that placing a special order for a new S and having it built exactly as we want it is a HUGE deal. I can't even imagine spending all that money on something as personal as one's vehicle and simply pointing to one on a dealer's lot and saying "I'll take that one." The new S550 is a wonderful car in its basic form. However, when loaded with some of the more special options, it can become truly magnificent. I think that the age & experience of the owner have a lot to do with it. Anyway, best of luck with the car you are probably already driving.

True. I'm in my 30s. I found one that was exactly what I'd build (color combo + sport package + 20" AMG multispoke wheels). I don't see the value in the other options although they seem incredibly valuable for those who would use them. I'm planning on closing the deal tomorrow. Thanks!

Frankly the AMG package by far has the least value. The body styling is so close to stock and the wheels are nothing special. For the $5-6k (I forget the price) they charge you can get P1 and some towards distronic. The stock car is a very good car, but the options are where it becomes special. Distronic is amazing, especially in traffic. The massage feature is great as well. I am a big fan of might as wells- if you are getting an S class- you might as well get some choice options. Once you are paying $1300 a month, does another $100-150 really matter?

I kind of agree, the sport package is expensive, but it does look a bit better, I still think the W221 looks classier than our W222

Agreed. It's does look a bit better, but just a bit. If it wasn't an option (in its present form), I doubt anyone here would be up in arms. If it were more aggressive I'd say ok, but at close to $6k, yikes. I should mention I have it, but would really skip it next time....

I agree that the sport package can be more aggressive, but the car without the package looks like an older man's car to me.

that is also 100% true I have felt kind of old several times

as I mentioned the W221 has a regal look, while the 222 is very ordinary; almost to plain.....it's mass is the only way you can tell it's actually an S class; besides badges of course

Agreed. The exterior looks like a larger new body C class. The interior though... Another beast.

I've got to disagree with you here. I had mine parked next to a 221 today and even the owner said wow what a difference. I feel like this car has a more substantial presence, almost Maybachish.

And no matter what you do, we all look like old men (or women) driving this thing. And I'm 38

I'm just saying that if you are paying $5900 for sports and not getting P1 then I feel you are making a mistake.

I guess I'm not accepting the answers that I came here looking for... but the P1 has the following:

Active multicontour front seats with massage - I don't think I'll use massage; maybe I should go try it
Ventilated front seats - My past 2 cars have had this option and I never use it
HANDS-FREE ACCESS - I don't use the trunk very often
Heated front seats PLUS - I live in Southern CA.; no need to heat my seats quicker; usually not at all.
KEYLESS-GO - would be nice
PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist - my other MBZ has this and it works about 20% of the time; it doesn't offer to park the 80% of the time. I can also park myself.
Power rear-side window sunblinds - would be nice

So for $4,500, I'd really be using only Keyless Go and the window sunblinds. The other packages are definitely not worth it in Southern CA (warmth & comfort, rear seat package, heated steering wheel, etc.).

I appreciate the feedback though! Definitely makes sense for the right driver.

Everything you just listed - I definitely need in MY car Except, may be Parktronic - I learned to park on the streets of Vienna back in a days.
