Removal (?) of rear entertainment screens
The car I am most likely to buy has 1 thing I don't want, but everything else I do: rear entertainment screens. Does anyone know if they can be easily removed/replaced or are they pretty permanent? I'll only rarely have rear seat pax, so for general use I'd prefer to remove them and let the exclusive trim show. Or does this leave obvious holes or other unsightly evidence that they were there?

this guys cat however, did not like the tellie's in the back, but as you can see, they have no fancy trim in the back seat![crazy](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif)

Well, I may be nuts, but the "appearance" is not what I am concerned about. If I'm not going to use the screens, they are just something in the way in the back and a possible extra attraction to thieves (though the car itself...). Even if I have backseat pax, they would be unlikely to use them and I'd prefer them out of the way. If they can't be easily removed, I'd leave them of course. I was just hoping there might be a quick disconnect if you weren't planning on using them - or if they needed repair.

I agree, but that isn't my concern with them. edit - just watched a hidef review that shows the function of the screens and the way they are mounted makes me think they are permanent and would look bad if removed, so, nevermind.

Screen fixture is sort of permanent but if you remove the screen and the small bracket that is secured from behind the seat rear panel, you should have everything looking like on a car that does not have RSE. If I remember right, the seat panels etc. are all the same for a car with RSE and for a car without.
You would face at least many diagnosis faults if you leave the RSE controller but remove the screens. I'm guessing everything else still works except the screens.

leave it to MB to make removing them a PITA and requiring a visit to a shop......I just didn't want to be seen with TV's in my backseat LOL

Do you feel the whole car should be able to be disassembled like LEGO blocks.
Not me. I want a permanent part to my car not easily removable, except by a certified technician. I think that is the correct engineering.

Why would you ever think that MB would make these screens easily removable without a visit to the shop.

but it would be nice for MB to give US some control instead of having to visit a dealer

In my car, the rear screens are required for the passenger to access the massage features, radio, movies, connected iPod, music disks, GPS. etc etc. Everything the driver and front passenger (through the split screen) can access, the rear passenger can also access in the rear (except for car settings).
