How much should i sell?

Hi Folks,
I am thinking to sell my car.
2015 S550
11K miles
Msrp is 117500.
What do you think. How much should i sell my car?
It is still in mint condition

You can ask whatever you want, but if you want to sell it look at KBB and other sources to see what they are selling for in your area. That way you can see what other people are paying.

The MSRP is not as important as what options you picked. Certain options retain a higher % of the option MSRP price.

For example the $1,100 fridge might only be worth $350 on the used market. Meaning it kept 31.8% of its value Where the the $5,900 sport package might be worth $3,000 on the used market. Meaning it kept 50.8% of its value. Also remember that MB is highly discounting new models so that pushes the used value down.

I usually check edmunds and bluebook and average the two prices.

It's too bad you are selling this car so soon as the initial depreciation is quite steep. If you are selling, sell soon as your are likely at a point where the car is depreciating about $2,000 every month for about the next year.

Here's a 2015 offered by sale by a Mercedes dealer for the asking price of $87,xxx. Granted it may not have all the options you have but it has fewer miles.

If I had to guess a range not knowing much about the options your car has, I'd say you are in the range of about $82K-87K. If you get a reasonable offer close to that range, I suggest that you take it.

We have a new baby and we need bigger Trunk. Actually I am thinking to buy Range Rover.

Yes this is very empty car.
I have an offer 91K trade in value.KBB value of my car is 96500.
I am thinking to list it around 95-97 actually.

Hopefully you can sell your car at 95-97k. This certainly depends on your local market. However, that price car MY 15 I can buy with no miles (new) right now for about $100k. Also you need to factor in how long you will need to hold the car for sale with keeping in mind that the value will drop atleast $1500 per month. Another thing to consider is whether or not your state allows you to exclude from the taxable sale the value for the trade in. In PA that is $5500-$6000 less in sales tax if you trade the vehicle in vs. outright sale and a new purchase.

KBB values are going to be really tough to be accurate for an essentially new car that's just months old as they have very little history to go by. I would go more by the vehicles available for sale and realize those are asking prices with possibly room left for negotiation. I bet there is about $2-5K of negotiating room for pretty much most of the cars advertised in this price range.

If I were you, Id take that 91K and run. It actually seems like a reasonable offer. You might get a bit more selling private party but a buyer might try to drive a hard bargain and if it takes you 2 months to sell your car, you've already lost another $4K in depreciation and by then the 2016s might be coming out.

Also realize with a used car, options are not worth the same price you paid for them... Some options like the wine bottle cooler that takes away valuable trunk space might actually be undesirable for some.

No, the original title is "how much should I sell" not "how much should I sell for." (see the difference?)

I was suggesting (humorously) that you sell 65% of the car and keep the other 35%.

If that trade in offer is legit. Take it and run. That number is much higher then the Manheim values.

Your car is actually worth around 82-85k. I had a 2015 with 4k on the odometer with 117,XXX MSRP and I got 88k for mine last month. There is trunk money right now on the new 2015's which would bring the 117K cars down to 103K brand new. I would take that into consideration when pricing your car. When I priced my car for 95K, I didn't get one phone call.

Come on man. You could only find 2014 around that range. I dont know your car's condition but under low 90s is very low i think.

I think @fkim011 gave you very sound advice. Whatever you do, sell before the 2016s come out. Don't get too hooked on KBB values. Do a national search on cars.com to figure out the asking price of similar cars and price your car based on those figures as that represents the current market. Keep in mind that there is likely about $3-5K of negotiation room built into the asking price of existing cars and when you sell private party, you generally get less than a dealer. This makes that trade in offer you got quite reasonable.

What are you replacing the 550 with?

a '15 is only worth that?


then again KBB tells me 90 for mine and 79 to a stealer!

When seeing what a car is worth, KBB is not very reliable. They have the "brand" but are always high. To see what your car is really worth, drive it over to Carmax. They usually step up to the plate.
