Power window switch broken

Wondering if any one has had this problem. My passenger side power window switch got disengaged/broke today . Luckily can control the window from the driver side. I just cannot believe how shoddy the workmanship is in a car like this.

Never happened in any of my cars in all these years (40 years) but had to happen in the S550 2015 luxury car. Looks like a cheap plastic switch.

Hope it can be repaired easily?

That's a bummer!

Do you know how it broke? Did someone pull to hard on it or is it just the fact that once you pull up on the switch nothing happens?

I am sure it can be easily fixed under warranty. Should be no big deal.

Just curious how you get to the thought of shoddy workmanship. Stuff happens but my '14 and '16 class in the W222 variety has been anything but shoddy workmanship. Mine have been excellent quality workmanship.

Hope you can get it fixed without any issues.

Thanks MTrauman, What I meant by shoddy was that a switch should not be that frail that it will break just by using it specially when that part of the car gets used so much. I just was opening the window and it popped like you said things happen (maybe my expectations are too high) and I can live with that but I did not expect it to be that easily broken and I hardly use the passenger side switch.

Anyway no big deal as I love the car and I am sure they will fix it. Will take to the dealer soon.

Well got the switch replaced. Good news no charge plus got the car washed. Great service.
Was told this happens a lot.

Great! It is not good if it breaks a lot.

Reminds me of the 2000 E320 4matic I own and my son drives. The window regulators go out often. I expect things like this to happen on my 16 year old car but not on my '16 S550.

Glad to see that the dealer fixed the issue free of charge. Same exact thing happened on my '14 S550 about four months ago expect it was the passenger rear. I was also very upset and asked myself the same thing as to how such a minor problem such as this can even occur on a $100K+ two year old luxury vehicle?!? Thankfully it was covered under the manufacturer warranty just like I knew it would!

I was happy too that it was covered under warranty . Had to wait though as it had to be ordered. Looks like it is cheap plastic in a @100,000+ car.
I hope it does not happen too frequently.

My car had to already go in for the squeaky brake/rotor issue, so at the same time we had them fix the switch too. My switch was ordered as well and it took a few days for the dealer to recieve it. I agree with you, I really hope the same problem does not end up happening with the rest of the switches.

My Issue

Hi all,
I have a 2014 W222 S600 etc etc etc and today the drivers side window switch has started to not respond when attempting to lower the drivers window, all other switches and windows respond as does this switch when lifting the said window?!
Any ideas? Fixes? Solutions? Explanations?
TIA

You were lucky to have them repair it free of charge, I have had two break on my S500, the buttons are so very thin plastic and really nowhere near as substantial as the ones in my 2008 GL, it is quite a common thing to break and when you remove the silver button part you realise just how thin and " cheap " the plastic is.
As mentioned it is a dissapointment on a car that was £100000 when new back in 2015.
Mine were the drivers switch for the front passenger window and also one of the rear window switches in the rear offside door.
I did ask the local main dealer about doing it under my extended warranty and he said not covered, the rear switchpack was £100, just took me 5 minutes to fit after prising it out.
I got lucky with the front one and repaired it with a switch button from ebay, the colour silver was slightly off and the illumination slightly different at night, however to save well over £100 I can live with that.

Hello
I just posted a similar post yesterday, regarding a seat switch. I absolutely agree with you. The materials and construction of the small parts in our car is embarrassing, It is very easy to get to the switch. Take it out and examine it. If it's anything like my seat switch, you may be lucky and able to fix it or reseat it in its plastic case.
Sorry just noticed that original post was from 2016

I recently had a switch on the drivers window console break, and it was easy to fix with an inexpensive replacement switch from eBay (documented on my blog here). But it sounds like yours might be a worn contact, rather than just the physical switch cover. The good news is that the entire window console pops out easily (see YouTube video below). You just have to make sure you get the right color replacement unit to match your interior, either from eBay or from your dealer (here in California, that'll be US$250).
