Mounting location dashcam

Can anyone tell me if mounting a dashcam immediately below the rear view mirror will impede any of the built in cameras or lasers that control features as distronics, lane departure, safe stopping or intersection monitoring? Any problems with the antennae wiring in the windshield? I don't want to buy this thing then find out, oh, this or that won't work now. Thanks. My local SA was not sure hence, the question to the forum.

Naturally, a camera can't impede other electronics so you are safe. Due to the glass IR coating, the GPS and as a result the recorded speed of the car may not work or not all the time.
That's what we have with the Blackvue, but only on the S-Class...

Mount it upside down in the passenger side upper IR cutout

Very discreet, can't see it from driver's window (police POV) or when driving myself and still gets GPS

It's a good location for the camera. In our case that is reserved for the Passport Max RD

What unit are you speaking about, and why do you say mount it upside down?

How hard is it to mount the dash cam? I am thinking of getting a blackvue.

Blackvue 650

Hard to explain, it will make sense once you try it yourself but the mount is off centered and optimal for driver side mounting

Upside down makes it optimal for passenger side mounting ie easier access to plugs/card/wifi button, can be tucked as close to center line as possible, etc

I have both my EZpass and Blackvue in that IR cutout area, works for me since I prefer not being able to see them while driving

Don't know for sure about interference, but.. You pull off files using WIFI so the unit is transmitting when you do that. WIFI should be off when driving. Wouldn't be a great place to mount if unit you have transmits anything while driving. Could induce signals etc. Mine is Black VUE 650 2 ch
One other tip.
My first mount had poor resolution videos. I had to change mounting locations.
If you look in a darkened location with a flashlight. You will see a really fine screen imbedded in the windshield just to the right of the mirror. About 5 in square. Purpose unknown. Mine is an early 2014 so can't say about other cars.
I moved it further right to in front of passenger visor. OK there. (except for reflections, white interior does not help)

Can you snap a Photo when you have a chance.... Did you go with the 2 CH system?
Where did you connect power?
Thanks

More or less. Works fine on sunny days, less so when cloudy. My assumption is that the antenna picks up less than 4 satellites used for GPS (tracking is lost at 2)

Not ideal, but the radar detector has priority for me. At the same time I don't want to get into an installed radar detector/laser jammer, etc.

That wire is usually tucked into the plastic

You could go higher but I want both EZ pass and dashcam to get GPS so I'm limited by the IR cutout

My buddy who could care less about GPS has his up tight

Another tip - use the same EZpass style velcro - not the sticky stuff from Blackvue - to mount it since at least I find myself taking it down a lot

JENZ -

Where did you wire for power from? I'm trying to find a switched 12V to connect my dash cam too. I was trying to use the fuse box on the passenger side - but they all seem to be hot all the time.

Thank you,

Alex

I'm pretty sure they tapped one in the passenger side box, as that is where they put my power magic pro box, too

Or maybe you're right, all of them are hot, but my PMP box handles the cut off

You want power to your webcam all the time not switched. One of the main reasons I have a cam is to see what's happened when I'm not there -front and rear. Manage the power drain with setting options in your cam settings and a power manager module.

I'm just purchasing a new C350e with night vison, COMAND, 360 degree camera and all the goodies and worry where to fit a dash cam.

What is the IR Cut Out? Can I mount the camera in this?

Haven't got the car yet, so, can't look to see what you mean.

C-Class doesn't have IR glass, so no issue. Mount where you like.
