S550Sport v Lux Ride quality
Hey group:
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a one of these new rides and was wondering what the difference was between the tires and suspension.
I just got rid of my C63 and what an awesome car it was but it rode like an F350 pickup. Especially across the steel plates and potholes of NYC.
I have test drove the sport but not the lux version and the ride was incredible.
Just wondering how much better the ride was with the lux and also how long do the tires last on the sport? I got about 10k miles out of the tires on my C63.
Thanks

Not sure what you mean by the sport...an AMG version? If your referring to one with the sport package, from my knowledge, I thought the sport package was primarily just cosmetic. No different suspension. The S550 has a sport and comfort mode to change the suspension and another button to change into sport to change the response of the engine. This comes with and without the sport package.
Now, the sport package I think comes standard with the 19 inch wheels. Don't know if it rides that much different than the standard 18inchers.
I have 20 inch mercedes optional wheels and it rides great. This is going to be a MUCH different ride than your C63, but will have plenty of power to keep the speed nut in you happy.

How many miles do you get out of the tires. O my 63 I would get about 10-12 k! I am assuming the 550 tires are more of a daily driver tire rather than all out performance?

I just bought mine in August of this year, and it had new tires on it, so it's hard for me to say. Maybe one of our other forum members could comment. I would think you would get more than 12k on them.

I am currently sitting on about 15 000 miles and it looks unlikely that the front tires will do more than about 18 000. About the same as my previous A8. One thing that I find strange though is that the fronts seem to wear quicker than the rear. I would think that on a rear wheel drive vehicle the opposite would apply? On the A8(quattro) they all wore out about evenly.
