This is where I am having problems. . in justifying such a cost to speed. I think I am kind of settling in with doing the Radenso RCM system for $2600 and then adding the ALP laser jammers later since I barely encounter laser out here..

My lead-footed Tesla P100D driving friend says that the best system available (if laser jamming is legal in your state or if you don't really care about the law) is the AL Priority System with Net Radar package which combines both Radar and Laser sensors and laser jamming. I'm more afraid of lasers than I am of radar.

Any chance you can share that switched fuse tie in point or information?

How did you run the cord up to the detector? Any help will be appreciated.
I have a 560 on order and hardwired my V1 into my GL 350 up into the sunroof / interior light switche area on the ceiling.
I am not sure if I can do likewise to the S class.
TIA

I get nervous going in there on the ceiling with the Distronic and all. THe other issue is the acoustic glass. I guess the best way to do it on these type of cars is a remote grill mounted sensor and the detector in or under the dash.

I bought my s555 with a full K40 radar/laser .....

.......system installed by prior owner in 2014. Nice, but K40 is at the bottom for performance. I bought an escort 650c and zw5 package from escort so I could use the 650c in my other vehicles too. Although not rated the very best, the combo is north of most. The very best installed system is the Anti-Laser Priority (ALP) system, but quite expensive and installers are hard to come by. So, now I’ll run both the escort and k40 systems side by side and count on the escort to pick up and jam the new dragon eye laser guns.

power connection for zw5 in the engine compartment

I tied the zw5 into the power/fuse block on the left side at the back (looking from the front). There were four hot's free but need a nut to bolt it down. Take off both the big plastic cover, then the smaller black plastic cover over the fuse block. I am waiting for the direct wire kit from escort for the 360c which I ordered Monday (seems they failed to list it's availability for purchase until I chased it down). If you need a direct wire kit with the Bluetooth built in, call Spencer at Escort customer service.

Escort makes an awesome suction cup mount with magnetic attachment to the mount from the RD. Very stable and solid and does not come off if you put it onto a clean window. I also think there is a box or window within the windshield that lets laser and radar signal through the glass.

V1 comes with great suction cup mount. The big problem on my new S450 is finding a switched hot wire. I am going to hook it to the feed that goes to the door opener module in the rear view mirror. The small current the V1 draws should be no problem. If anyone knows a reason that wont work , please reply.
The fuse panel in the left end of the instrument panel has no switched hot wires.. very odd.. The S550 did.

That’s exactly what I did for my 2014 GL. I would love to know how to get into the mirror assembly on my S 560 to search for a connection.

I have the Escort Max Ci 360 (with the Mid City module to display on the HUD) installed in my 19' 560. We tapped the front console cig lighter (inside the pull out tray) for switched 12V power. Had the same setup in a 2015 S550.

Apparently.....just to the right of the mirror is not the same as 'to the left'?...........I'm not getting any detection's at all from the right position.

Where did you get your cars done? I have a 2015 S63 and I'm looking for someone / shop to install the Max CI 360 stand alone with the ALP laser jammers. Preferably someone who has worked on the 222 before.

The pass through is just to the right with acoustic glass or on the dash towards the front of the dash. Too far back you loose signal. My radenso works good up at the front of the dash down low on the dash. I can turn it off and on with the remote turn on if need be like for a phone call.

Had them done by a friend who runs his own shop in the Houston Area.

Max 360C Dash Mount (Lower Windshield/Centered)

Gents,

I'm a new '17 W222 owner, first MB, and loving it. Loved my LS460L that I just had too. I'm also VERY appreciative of all the advice on the various topics posted, it's excellent.

Like many, I've struggled with mounting my Escort Max 360C, think I have a nice work around and wanted to share considering all the tribal knowledge I've taken in.
For me, lower/center part of windshield was my only option, and I had it hard wired to the fuse block on the left side of Dashboard.
Trying to use any kind of suction cup holder wouldn't work for me, since the dash height and windshield angle made it tough to get the detector 'in the rectangular zone' to receive signals.

I had some thin and somewhat rigid metal in the garage, so I cut some of it into a rectangular shape with some tin snips. Then bent it into a V shape, and double stick taped it to the bottom side of the detector. I used really good double sided tape that came with my BlackVue dash cam. That stuff is amazing, and will DEFINITELY stick.
So, it would look something like this: > ......being stuck to bottom of detector. Pics below.....

Then, I covered the bare metal with some of that adhesive felt that you would use on the bottom of a vase, with fine furniture. This made it not so shiny, and also provided some grip to the dash material, so it would not slide around while making turns and such. There is nothing sticky touching the dash material, just felt.

The nice thing about this kind of solution, is that the metal is somewhat rigid, but flexible enough so when you put the radar detector up to the windshield, it creates a tension between the dash/detector/windshield and keeps itself in place. Maybe you could call it a 'tensioning wedge'....

This was something I just 'fashioned up' with stuff I had in the garage. As the old adage goes.... "necessity is the mother of all invention"....

I've tried this for about 1.5 weeks now, and felt it was worthy enough to share, and it works. Probably took about 25 mins to do the whole thing, and bend the metal to create the right amount of tension...

Hope this works for someone!!!

And thanks again for all the tribal knowledge... especially regarding brake dust, wifi speed, leatherique leather cleaner, run flat tire advice, etc etc etc.... I've loved it all. So helpful !!!!

With everything going on, stay safe everyone !!!!

Jeff

Detector is level, and within the rectangular zone...the back of the detector is actually touching the windshield....

Just a side view....clean looking install....

Picture demonstrating how the V shaped wedge, creates a tension between windshield and dashboard.... and covering it with felt, stopped it from sliding around....

NIce custom spring mount you made there!

How did you route the power wire? Through the dash? Around the side? Where did you hook it to for power?

I had it professionally installed. Although, I do not think it is that difficult to do yourself. The wire is not run through the dashboard, but around the sides and front by the windshield, just tuck the wire down in there. On the very side of the dashboard, where the door meets up as it closes, that panel pulls off to reveal a fuse block. Hope this helps!

Adding a dash cam specifically mine along with a radar detector in this S550 is so difficult, I have a OwlCam thats connected the internet works great for me. issue is the way you have to mount it is a 1 or the other type method.
I spent an hour trying to figure out how to mount both these devices my radar detector is the Escort Max360 but with the slim windshield profile and adding both these devices together it just is too much. (picture below does not show radar detector)
