Recent discount on 2016 leftovers vs 2017 new stock

The extended warranty on my W212 E550 is about to expire and I'm in the market for a new S550. Wrestling with the idea of low mile CPO, 2016 left over stock or 2017 new stock. The thought is that if I can pick up a 2016 old stock that is deeply discounted to off-set the horrible year 1 depreciation that would be great. If I can't then a new stock 2017 becomes the target. I mention CPO only if I can find a 2016 with < 10,000 miles in excellent condiiton that is deeply discounted.

What kind of pricing are you all seeing in your area? How deep are the discounts on the 2016 left over units? Anyone getting 10% on a new 2017?

I feel reasonably qualified to answer this question as but for the consideration of the low mile CPO (not my preference as I keep cars a LONG time and then give them to family members...) and the sport options I have just been through the drill.

Summary. You can handily get 20k off the 2016 leftovers and 10k off the 2017. That is for cars prices at 110 MSRP. I am sure it would be higher for cars with higher MSRPs.

Thanks Hype. I loved the W212 550 but its a bit dated and there isn't a V8 option and the AMG series won't be released until sometime next year...just can't wait any longer. A good friend of mine told me when I bought my E that it would last much longer than you want it to...so true. Great 6 years of ownership but ready for something different.

Looks like we have a deal on units listed above for $20k off sticker. Couldn't pass it up so headed to the dealer Saturday to pick it up. Already planning new Bel StIR+ with Mid City Module, tint, clear bra on the front and all weather mats. And it begins again....

New twist and not sure how I am going to handle it yet. Putting all of the paperwork for the deal together and ask for current mileage as dealer website, cars.com, Edmonds, etc.. state 11 miles on the odometer. I asked to confirm tonight as working out delivery time for Saturday and find out this unit has 826 miles....fuming and now have to send a family member that lives ~90 mins away to look it over carefully. Salesperson said GM was driving it yesterday and it would need to be cleaned up to inspect it for scratches, scuffs, dings, etc...

Unless they are willing to go deeper on the discount I'm tempted to order a 2017 instead. I can easily get $10k off of the 17 so paying $10k more for a year newer and near zero miles. Guess I should consider myself blessed to have these types of problems to sort through....

You will find opinions on each side of this fence. Only your opinion matters as to what to do.


This happened to me in 2000 when we bought our new 2000 ML320 (got rid of this piece of crap in 2007--new motor at 37,000 miles--maybe the 650 miles contributed to having to get a new motor?). I ultimately bought the vehicle with 650 miles on it but I felt betrayed since the dealer's info never stated anything about miles past 10 miles before going an hour away to look at/buy the car. To this day I will avoid that local dealer like the plague since I felt betrayed ever since. This is good for my local dealer that is 1/2 mile from my office.

Go to other local dealers, show them what your dealer offers and ask if they can match (or do better) with their brand new 2016 S550 in stock.

I bet you will find a comparable deal if not better, without the 826 miles, from another dealer.

Great advice. I visited my local dealership tonight and 30mins later walked out with a 2017 that has all the options above plus Pano roof for $15k off of an msrp of $121k. So for ~$6k more I was able to do a 17 vs 16. Shipping in for the west coast so won't have until right befor / after turkey day.

Not sure I understand what you are getting at except you simply don't believe Pntblnk.


I ordered my '16 S550 4matic at the end of June '15 with a MSRP of $137k. I received a $14k discount on an ordered car that was delivered in Sept '15. Of course I have a great relationship with my dealer and had purchased many S Class cars from this same dealer including the '14 S550 4matic that was replaced by the '16. And today (I believe there might be $4k dealer money on '17s and 10k dealer/trunk money on '16s but I could be wrong but I think that is what one of my clients told me).

I've never gotten that much off, then again I never picked one off the lot and always ordered.......this was on the lot, so it was easier to get a bigger discount? that's an awesome reduction in price for a NEW '17

I was actually surprised as well. I used the deal I had working on the new 2016 with $20k off to ask what the discount was on the 17's. There was a thread from earlier about easily getting $10k off so I started at $15k expecting to get to $12-13k. The sales manager got his calculator out and started punching numbers and while I don't remember them all exactly it was something like... invoice is 6% below sticker, there's another 4% for co-op advertising and then another $4k in trunk money for end of year that he would split with me. Or something to that effect - he was talking fast and I was still a bit shocked that he said ok.... deal. Keep in mind this unit was located in Utah and he had to transport to Nashville so probably another $1000k I could have gotten if the vehicle would have been on the lot. I'm guessing ~$2k total left in the deal for him.

I wish I could take credit for being a master negotiator but this was his first offer...all I could say was toss in the all weather floor mats and you have a deal.

MBUSA must be offering some heavy year end promotions in the dealer network to move stock. There are ~1100 2016 S550's shown on cars.com and another 1300 2017's so the network must be a bit clogged with inventory.

I've never doubted or questioned anything you've said but I've bought many new vehicles through the same dealer and salesman many S-Class as well. You and I might be Benz Bros. I would even wager that most in here can relate. That said, we have a reasonable experience on pricing I would imagine.

Had I have known we had a champion among us it would have been amazing if the "master negotiator" could kicked some tips over because I'm clearly a "non-negotiator" compared. I literally just got a '17 with a similar msrp that was in inventory/off the lot that pntblnk listed and there is no way hes I could possibly get anything close to 15k off a similar vehicle, at least on the planet I live on regardless of inventory.

FWIW, these deals are most certainly possible, and I've been offered very near the best of those mentioned without working too hard--or in fact, at all. It's well known that there is a significant S Class inventory nationally right now, and the high-profile announcement of an impending and sizable refresh isn't helping them much.

If you're a current S Class customer (or not, I suppose), you will be amazed at what can be done. My dealer is offering to take me out of my current, 24 month 2015 S Class lease with all 7 remaining payments forgiven (MB published pull-forward is for only 5 payments) and a $14K discount on a 2017 $109 car. On a $123K unit I like, the discount is bit more--again on a 2017 and again with 7 remaining payments forgiven. This is just via mail and email so far--but I have the deal in writing. I will be going in on Saturday and post here if I go for it.

My dealer generated this offer via mail without any prompting from me. And I live in the biggest MB bull***ville market in the country (an homage to the earlier referenced troll.) The dealer will still make a few bucks--they always do and they should. They aren't giving them away.

On the other hand, I might just run out this lease and get the new 2018 next summer but those aren't going to get much of a discount for the first year. So, we shall see. These are not problems of course--just considerations.

The car arrived from Utah Monday afternoon and is getting window tint / front end wrapped with an expel mask before taking delivery Friday morning. For once I am actually looking forward to that early flight home...

$15k off would be the standard discount I expect of a MY17 right now. Winter event in on and one month before year-end on what looks to be a standard spec's S-Class makes dealers motivated. Better discounts on heavily optioned cars or unusual color/options combos are likely.


No master negotiation required from what I can tell

Congrats. It is an amazing car to be in every day as you will soon be pleased to discover. Unlike most other cars I've had, the longer I own this one, the more I like it. Usually at 18 months, I get itchy to move on but this time, I could easily wait until the lease actually ends-- unless there was a deal that I couldn't refuse. With a 7-month pull forward already on the table--who knows?
