Ouch... Lucky no fender damage... About 25 years ago I purchased a used Honda Hatchback.... The tires were so old, each of them failed one at a time with blowouts... It was a station car.... The funny thing was, after the first two blowouts, I was sort of prepared for the others.... So heading back from Manhattan to Long Island, I had the shake in the wheel at 3:00AM, sure enough about 5 miles from home the tire went and I had no spare. I drove on the flat till the entire side wall gave out, had to get home after a long night of partying in the city... drove nice and slow. After about 15 minutes, the other side wall starting shredding and bits and pieces of the belt started coming off. Sparks were flying on the Southern State for about one exit and smoke everywhere. No one around, it was like a chase from out of the movies with the Cops ready to do a PIT maneuver on me... Well, the Belt Split off, started ripping apart the mud guard and the plastic fender flair, then it continued to rip around taking off the side view mirror. By the time I arrived home, it had also dented in the front fender. The Rim looked like it was from Fred Flintstone, flattened out on both sides, half of the original wheel diameter.. I made it all the way home.
In the AM, you can see a gouge cut into the street for 2 miles from the exit to my home. Well I was young back then , and I laughed as I tried to remove all the frozen lug nuts from the high heat.
Those were the days.....
