Yes, good word: GAUCHE!
Oh well, my new S560 will probably have another all black interior. Not really what I want, but if I want to stay with MB, it's probably my best choice. Of course, we can always hope that there is another new interior choice or two that has not been shown yet.

I went with an all black 2017 750. Can never go wrong with black on black!

Me too! I'm so sick of 50 shades of gray & black. Would love a crisp, solid, non-metallic/non-pearl white or a nice cashmere metallic. Would go absolutely crazy over a non-metallic British Racing Green. Wish they would take a look at the Bentley pallet and get some inspiration.

Don't know about you guys, but I really like it. Any love I had left for the 221 has now been lost to the 222.2. They really cleaned up the front imo.

Still will miss the 550 nameplate.

Yes the 560 represents top of the line, cream puff of the 80s, but to me 550 represented the modern car for the savviest of them all. While the 600 and 63s were for basketball players and movie stars, the 550 was for bankers, hedge funders, real estate moguls, lawyers and doctors. People who had other things to worry about than to care about whether or not they had an AMG or a V12. The 560 will become that, but to me that name has still got the 1980s Beverly Hills feel to me-- gaudy. 550 was smoother.

Benz has to switch it up every now and then to keep everyone excited. Plus, I guess they thought... the car is a 4.0 liter, 550 means nothing to us... so why not got back to our legacy...and differentiate ourselves from BMW's 550

This is a black/brown combo AFAIK. The lighting makes it look lighter than it is...

And, from a company headquartered where the skies are usually cloudy, where it rains a lot and snows a lot, WHAT are they thinking with carpets that are damn near WHITE??? I'll agree that they look stunning when brand new, but they are ridiculously inappropriate for use on the floor of any vehicle that will see any type of normal use. And that almost white steering wheel! How long will that stay attractive? MB may have brilliant engineers, but sometimes their aesthetics people have their head up their ***. Below, this is what Bentley offers. Clean, luxurious and IMO, very classy and even, dare I say: PRACTiCAL!
I absolutely agree that Mercedes should offer more choices.
Unfortunately at this point we don't know anything beyond the few PR pics and show car interior choices.

Of course, Bentley's as well as RR's niche is that they cater to their customers whims. But that comes at significantly higher price points. If I recall , RR is happy to sell you a set of custom luggage for $46k. A one-of custom upholstery on the S-Class will likely cost you less

That said, the cream/saddle interior looks rather nice but is extremely unpractical, with the worst offender being the steering wheel.

On the other hand I am surprised that our light gray steering wheel looks more or less unchanged after 2 years + use.

What we are calling "saddle tan" is being referred to as "Mahogany/Silk Beige" which means the light color is the same as on my 2015 "Deep Sea Blue/Silk Beige". I don't find the steering wheel to be a problem at all. I waited about 18 months before cleaning it and it was only slightly dirty at the time. It takes 5-10 minutes to clean it (with
this leather cleaner this leather cleaner
, which I HIGHLY recommend, and a microfiber rag) and if I did it every 6-9 months it would look pristine all the time.

Carpets are another story, though. On the 2015 I wanted to use MB rubber mats but beige was discontinued and I ended up with something in black by Weathertech (not the "up the sides" line) which I may or may not switch back to the original carpet half the year. If I get the 2018 I will might get the beige version (here) or hopefully MB has or will make beige again. Or maybe I'd get something in a clear polyurethane/vinyl to go on top of the original carpets, though when I looked around a couple years ago I didn't like the choices too much.

I hate rubber mats even though we are using the car as a winter car in Minnesota. The interior is a crystal gray/seashell which has the light steering wheel and carpets.
Interesting, the light gray mats hold up ok. I typically buy a new set of MB carpets after the first winter and have the old ones shampooed and put them away as the next winter mats.

Same experience on the steering wheel as stated.

But the steering pictured earlier is a full leather AMG steering wheel which will see much heavier use than wood/leather ones we have.

I get it, the light interiors are tolerable, usable and maintainable, BUT, what if the carpets were manufactured in a color just a few shades darker? What if the steering wheel was just a few shades darker, or ala BMW, offered only in black or black & wood? Or, best of all worlds: offered in "all of the above" as options? Wouldn't that just make all the sense in the world?

I don't think you see me disagreeing with you. But it's not about practicality but customer choice. Mass manufacturers like MB have less choices than boutique ones like Bentley, etc.
After all, there are many Bentleys around with highly sensitive pure white interiors and delicate steering wheels.

Perhaps MB will make it easier ordering custom interiors moving forward...

This article mentions: "Three new upholstery color combinations include Silk Beige/Deep-Sea Blue, Magma Gray/Espresso Brown, and Mahogany/Silk Beige."

I don't know what would be new about Deep Sea Blue, unless the blue and beige are reversed in placement, or it is no longer Designo?

Yeah, I remember that as well. Funny, it never bothered me, the steering wheel was just comfortable and, I thought, elegant. They should offer the old style, with the appropriate upgrades, as standard and the new one as a "sport" steering wheel as a stand alone option or as part of the Sports Pkg.
