3 out of 4 of the OEM Goodyear 20 inch tires have failed at about 15,000 miles. The sidewalls separated from the tire. It took 3 months to get Goodyear to admit they were defective and then I only got a partial discount on two of them. Lucky it was the start of winter and I could put on my snow tires! The dealer did all they could but I blame MB for crappy tires and not replacing them at no charge. Makes me wonder what other surprises the warranty holds.

ALL Run Flat Tires are the kiss of death. Why anyone puts up with them, when there are such wonderful alternatives readily available, is just beyond me.

hmm, I had the same thing happen to one of my Goodyear run flat tires, just separated, all air went out. It was at 16,000 miles. I decided to change all 4 to regular tires. Better ride now

Sorry I don't agree I love my Pirelli RF's & on my second set. I haven't anything close to kiss of death as you say. Mine have worn much more even than others.

Here on the east coast when winter arrives I switch to Continental Extreme Contact DWS 20 inch. But upon spring back to the run flats. Much stiffer on the cornering! Thats just me though.

Expensive, terrible performance, ridiculously harsh ride, defective more often than not, and wear out extremely fast. Run flat tires are absolute garbage. Mine are sitting in my storage room until it's time to turn the car back in. We have road side assistance, why would a person need run flats?

I bought a spare from a W 221 and got rid of my run flats and I could not be happier with the ride and handling. I don't have as much room in the trunk but I can live with trade-off

looking at the official pics of the facelift, it appears they have increased the tyre size to 255/40 X 20s

I did the same thing.

Not having even the SPACE for a compact spare, is one of those things that just drives me nuts with MB. I'm sure they COULD have made the space, but they didn't WANT TO. They want to shove RFT down our throats, whether we like it or not.

We're not going to try and convince anyone who doesn't like Run-Flats to buy them, only offer the premise that maybe you were buying the wrong RFTs. Here's a demo video of our AZ850 RFT.




We've had great success with our AZ850's and if you're an SUV, Cross Over or Sport truck driver you may want to look into them.

Consider this, when was the last time you had a flat tire on the road? I can't remember ever having such and I have been driving since 1954. I have had slow leaks due to valve stem leakage, but those were always noted at home in my garage. I do carry a small 12Vt air compressor in my cars' trunks (boots). Also, I have a 110vt air compressor in my garage. I do long road trips since retirement, and always carry an air pressure gauge. Modern radial tires do not look "low pressure" until the air pressure is dangerously low, so do check air pressure from time to time.

Bubbles have developed in my 2016 S550 on three of four tires prior to 9000 miles. One occurred at 3200 miles. Something is wrong, and it is due to driver carelessness, as the manufacturers would like to claim. In my view, these tires are either poorly designed, or poorly manufactured. They do not tolerate even normal driving. Time to recall and replace them.

Best tires I've ever had were Goodyear RFlats on a 2015 BMW 750Li. Staggered wheels at 35,000 miles that were just as smooth as the day I drove off the lot when new. Stupid move for me to trade the car , but at 35000 miles , they were still able to go another 10Kmiles. I then went to an Audi A8. It had non-staggered, regular tires and they had a singing noise from day one. They were Pirrellis. Hated them.

OK, here's my feedback . I have Goodyear Run Flat Tires 245/45 /18 all around .They are comfortable than I thought would be , still makes some noises but these can be heard only on bad surfaces
Otherwise a comfy tire in its own right .Those tires don't spoil the Rolls Royce esque ride , when on the Comfort Mode as well

I have an incredible amount of experience with luxury cars. I've owned over 30 cars that are over $60,000. Of all those cars, Goodyear Run Flats have been the absolutely best experience with tires I've ever had. They were on a 2015 BMW 750 Li. Staggered tires at 35,000 miles, never did I have a bit of vibration, and the mechanics couldn't believe at 35,000 miles they had so much tread left. They said I could have gone to 45,000 miles on them.

I've had over 50 cars in the past 30 years. I have NEVER had run flats until I bought the S550, and I have never had these issues.

Goodyear F1 Asymmetric. 3 fronts, 2 backs.

5,000 miles one flat
10,000 miles another flat
15,000 miles another flat
20,000 miles another flat
23,000 miles another flat

All of these happen to be upon returning, or leaving for a 400 mile trip.

Every single tire problem was the side wall tearing away from the tire, for mostly half the tire circumference.

I have never had issues with any other car.

I'm glad I could drive around for many miles looking for the next tire store, but it's as-if having that guarantee made for a crappy tire. Catch-22 if you ask me.

To the original poster here. How did you end up getting them to pay for partial replacements? Probably too late for me since this has happened so may times.

Anyway, just wanted express my outrage as well. Not sure what to think at this point.

Sounds like you keep doing the same thing, hoping for a different outcome. Trash the run flat tires and put a new set of Bridgestone Serenity Plus tires on. Either get yourself a compact spare or a TireFit kit. You'll be amazed at the improvement in comfort and how quiet the new tires are.

I don't even buy brand new tires. I have a reputable source of "knock off" tires and still have wonderful success with run flats. On my 2nd set of tires (Goodyear run flat tires) on my car and absolutely flawless performance. The knock off tires are Bridgestones. I love them .
