What the heck is wrong....

So This noise just started out of nowhere yesterday. Today I drove it again and it didn't happen until about 5 min into the drive then it started right up again. Engine is running just fine, transmission shifts fine, however when I restart the engine the noise goes away but comes back shortly after, makes the noise rolling in neutral or Drive. looked underneath the car and nothing is dragging. It started out as a metal dragging noise then manifested to a full on screech Its going to the dealer, but I'm curious what it could be so the dealer can't try and say its something I did and not warranty it. I need this thing in perfect shape to trade for the 18 s63 amg haha. 2016 s550 RWD with about 6800 on the clock. Any thoughts?

I don't have any answers for you, but this is freaky. I had a similar occurrence a few weeks ago on my 2015. It sounded like I was dragging something metallic underneath the car, kinda like a metal rake. It lasted about 15 seconds and then went away as I was pulling into my driveway. I was very certain I didn't run over anything but I still got out to check - nothing. I was going about 20 mph when the sound started and the car was fully warmed up. It hasn't happened since. It was so random that I forgot to mention it to the service advisor when I had it in for yearly service last week. Let us know if you find anything!

To the extent you can, I suggest checking the suspension/wheel areas. Could be debris or something stuck in that area.

Post the update

It sounds different than this issue - https://mbworld.org/forums/new-s-cla...ise-fixed.html - but may be related?

just to update. nothing actually failed in the car, a small rock somehow found its way between the brake rotor and the backing plate. Took them 30 min to fix. Glad thats all it was and wasn't anything major.

Had this happen on a 5 series BMW once. Had the car flat bedded to the dealer, by the time the car had gotten there after it’s ride on the back of the bouncy flatbed truck, the rock had worked it’s way loose. Problem solved!

Was gonna say this, I've seen it happen and it makes a terrible noise, but is not a problem once you remove the offending rock. Glad you got it sorted.
