Essentially the same body with typical f/r tweaks to bumper/lights...I don't care for the lights at all, but they may look much better in the flesh.

As an S class owner I am not pleased MB has continued the pattern of making their cheapest cars look like their most expensive...this may be good for a C class owner but not for us!

I actually like the new CLS. The triangular headlights distinguishes the car from other Mercedes models and I like how the front bumper/grille is angled forward to give it a more aggressive look from the side profile.

I don't see anything wrong with it, I think it's a good looking car. It's got the wide openings on the nose like the AMG. I think the roofline looks fairly sleek. That new inline 6 engine should be a good one.

Not sure how i feel about the styling either....it looks a bit Ford Mustang-ish on in front in that picture.

You do realize that nothing is official yet about the CLS53's engine right? All speculation so far. If it does have 435/429hp it is the same engine as in the Euro S500. Same engine, same power, different actual hp numbers due to differences in U.S. vs European rating standards. I actually think it will have more than 429hp since there WON'T be a CLS63.

Yes, certain elements reminded me of the Mustang too, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Mustang is a beautiful car.

+1 The new Mustang GT Premium is quite nice and the 18's are even nicer...I've been thinking about getting one of these as a cheap ($50k) play car.

Those 429bhp press reports include the full hybrid powertrain, 50kW from the electric motor, which implies that the I6 is lower-power than the one in the S500, since the mild hybrid S500 has a much lesser power electric motor. I do take your point that the press could be wrong, so we'll have to wait and see.

Ooh, that's gotta rattle a few designers.

Really boring design, both fore and aft.

No, you're missing the fact that the quoted 429hp for the CLS53 and the 435hp for the Euro S500 is due to a conversion, not an actually difference in power. They're the same engine/setup. It's the same engine.

So what are you claiming, that the ICE part of the CLS53 and S500 are identical, AND that the CLS53 is actually a mild hybrid, not a full hybrid as reported, and the electric motor in it is the same as the one in the S500? Because that's the only way that total output could be the same, if the I6 is identical in each.

Just do a few google searches:

S500 16kw
CLS 53 50kw
CLS 53 16kw

...and see how many results pop up for each. HINT: as i've been saying, the evidence is that the CLS has a more powerful electric motor.

If TOTAL output is the same as the S500, which we agree on, it follows that the I6 in the CLS53 is less powerful than the I6 in the S500.

I think it looks great, could have been a little better: how I don't know.......but I dig it. I like the headlamps very much and the aggressive rear end the AMG is boasting.

Yes man, the I6 is the same in both cars. No it doesn't follow if they have the same I6 and the output is the same. Its the same 429/435hp in the S500 and rumored CLS53.

What are you saying, exactly?
That the I6 component is identical between CLS53 and S500?
That the electric motor in the CLS53 and S500 will be the same or different?
That total output (ICE + electric) in the 2 cars will be the same or different?

1. YES. It's the same 3.0L I6.
2. Don't know because the CLS53 is not official yet. It's speculation. That said, IF the power is 429hp (435hp in European conversion) it is the same electrics as the S500.
3. It is the same 435/429hp. DIN vs SAE ratings. Same power.
