Wheels

After reading about damaged wheels due to thin sidewalls, as on 20”ers, and people complaining about the harsh ride due to stiff sidewalls on RFs, I wondered why doesn’t M.B. increase the fender wells to accommodate 22s with a full sidewall a la’ RR?

No. It's the run flats that ride ruff. You could put normal, non run flat 22" wheels on this car and it would still ride incredible due to airmatic, etc.

I disagree. Sure, the RFT are the kiss of death to ride quality, but in second place, are overly large wheels, shod with very low profile tires. If we have a nice S Class equipped with AirMatic with 18” wheels and deeper sidewall tires, the ride quality will be superior to the same car riding on larger diameter wheels, with more shallow sidewalls. Of course, all things being equal, the choice of tire brand/model can also affect the ride quality.

I don't know. I have a GL, (factory airmatic) and it came with 20" and I put on 24" and can't tell. It's still super super smooth. Might be due to the tires being high speed, and not all season. High speed only tires do ride much softer, but I can't tell any difference, and I'm pretty picky.



Just had it wrapped Satin Peal white, and the pics doesn't do any justice.
