2018 S560: more likes/dislikes
I have about 1200 miles on my S560 and have noticed some additional things. First, the wooden part of the wood/leather steering wheel heats up a bit. On my 2015, the wood part did not heat up at all. When the command screen is showing the back-up camera, the mute function on the steering wheel control doesnt work, where it did on my 2015.
As noted in other threads, I love this new car. The only things IMO that are worse than my 2015 are the loss of trunk space and the deletion of the CD player. I believe I can say, so far anyway, that most everything else seems to be better and some things, like the improved MBC & Distronic systems are tremendously better. I liked my 2015 S550, but I truly LOVE the 2018. Drive one with MBC using the “Curve” setting and you will truly be amazed!

My steering wheel mute button works on my 2018 S63. While in R or D, while surround camera is showing rear or front, it worked in all screens.
I tested out the tesla autopilot and its way better than distronic. My distronic zig and zags within the lane on small curves or straight lines. Same road in both vehicles. Its cool that I have it, but I don't use it often.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I'm thinking it must be the MBC that maybe cuts into trunk space. I looked at a 2018 yesterday with the warmth and comfort package and the trunk looked about like my 2015 even under the panel when I lifted it. I was surprised. I think I coulda got my tennis chair in that car. So looks like a may not have to rule out a 2018. Was thinking I'd have to get a 2017 when I'm ready to get rid of my 2015.

I agree w/ you. I'm unimpressed w/ the 2018 S Class Distronic (as well as the rest of the car in general). Its very jerky & I can't trust it....Why did they even bother? A lot of hype and not much significant tech delivered. I hope Audi & BMW offer superior products in 3 years...this face lift was faxed in. BUT..i still love my SL65...

I have the S450 with the DAP and can tell you it works great.
I especially appreciate it in heavy (Stop-n-Go) Bay Area traffic as I just sit back and let the car do all the driving.
There is a lot of high tech stuff jammed in this car, much more advanced than the G12.

I can also verify that the distronic is much improved over the older models. I have a 2018 E class AMG and the adaptive cruise is much more accurate and does not zig and zag as my 2015 S class does. It takes corners better too when self driving. Also the lane change with turn signal activation is nice, I notice the 2015 S speeds up when you activate the turn signal but does not change lanes by itself, I do like the fact that it speeds up by itself though, that is a nice feature.

I have two dislikes :
1- The model name designation , I prefer 550 but that's a personal preference
2- Steering wheel design , it looks ugly pre facelifted models' AMG ones were better looking to me

Distronic Plus works much better than before and interestingly works much better on European roads but holding the center of the road never seems to have been a priority
If I were to place a bet on autonomous driving (which I could less for unless in slow/heavy traffic) I think Audi will have the best system in the short term.

I think it may vary where the Tesla autopilot is used. Major highways in CA vs. elsewhere on smaller roads. We have had a Model S twice for a weekend and the Autopilot was less than ideal. The car did hold beautifully in the center though, but the steering wheel reminder was more intrusive and the car ended up limiting the speed below the speed limit. Obviously a snapshot in time when I drove them.

I have heard that GM's autonomous driving might actually be the best currently.

I enjoyed my CD so I dislike that they took it out and made it a-la cart post vehicle purchase. I DO like the new 4.0 V8. I've come to enjoy it over the previous engine. Lots of bark especially in sports+.
