2018 S560 4MATIC
2014 S550 more reliable than 2015 S550?
Hello everyone, I am considering the 2014 or the 2015 S550 4matic. I am going thru various literature and forums and I was wondering if the posters here can confirm for me that the 2014 S550 is indeed more reliable than the 2015 S550? Consumer Reports also seem to agree on this (2014 Reliability gets 3 out of 5, whereas 2015 Reliability gets 1 out of 5)
First time poster.. any reliability experiences you can share with me is appreciated. Thanks

I have a 2015 but I am not aware of any major differences between the two. They are basically the same car and in fact mine is a 2015 but was built in June of 2014 so not sure why there is the difference. Its a super technical car so I would get a warranty regardless.

Im sure thats bs, just not enough time for the gremlins to pop up. s550 id say is a pretty solid car. Im on nmbr 2...and no real complaints.

First off, forget about Consumer Reports for rating the S-Class. It's less than worthless for evaluating luxury cars.
To date neither model year W222 had any significant or pervasive failures of any kind. There are some annoyances and those were more evident in the MY14 vs 15. I personally call these nuisance issues; some break squeal, some software updates needed for My15 trackpad etc, some seat noises, some window seals, some fuel door adjustments. 4matic S550's had a tendency to wear the outer edge of the front wheels, requiring more accuracy on alignment than just spec.
Other than that these cars have been more or less fantastic. I rate them 4.5 of 5 for a electronically and mechanically very complex car. Whatever car you buy at this level, get a warranty.
Visiting these forums provide the best feedback as many visit to discuss issues. But no need to take my opinion, simply scroll through this forum; you will simply have a 4 year screen shot of anything that happened with these cars, magnified

I would not trust consumer reports rating extension cords much less cars...
There is nearly 0 difference between the 2014 S Class and a 2015 S Class. Depending on what features they have and color is the only reason I would say choose one over the other.

I have about 40k miles on my 215 S550V. I've had two problems to date; a bad set of switches on the front passenger seat controls & misalignment issues on my fuel filler door. Both issues resolved by the dealer (it took four tries to get the fuel filler door aligned to my satisfaction).
Other than that the car is rock solid - I love it !
I did purchase the extended warranty package - I plan to keep the car for a number of years.
Enjoy !
