I wanted a leather steering wheel for my 2018 S63 but it doubled in price in 1 mo?
So I contacted my dealer's parts dept 2 mos about about replacing my 2018 S63's microfiber/leather wheel with an all leather wheels and they said it would be discounted to $2200 for me. They said there was only 1 in the entire US and I said I'd think about it. A month later, after thinking long and hard about it, I decided to pull the trigger since I got my tax refund. I called my salesman and he said he could get it for me for $100 less, $2100. He texted me tonight, 2 weeks later, after searching the entire US and saying none were available, that I'm going to be mad. "First, there are still no all leather heated steering wheels in the entire US for my S63 and second, the price went up. On June 1 the price went up to $4k for that steering wheel, per MB."
What!?!
He added that "I wish it was different, I can show you tomorrow, the price from the computer screen, so you can see for yourself." WTF? It doubled in price in 1 month?
It's always something, isn't it? I guess I'll have to get used to my steering wheel then. I'm not going to pay $4k for an all leather wheel to replace my fake suede/leather wheel that I don't like. Damn. It came on the car and I didn't really notice it till a couple weeks after I bought it, that it didn't feel so good in my hands.
Such is life I guess. These are first world problems, in a way.
I had my steering wheel custom made in alcantara with custom stitching and a leather insert on top + airbag in alcantara and it looks awesome together. It is also thicker now so it fits nice in bigger hands. Oh yeah and the price was $800 (Germany).

Was yours a 2018? They are quite different steering wheels and more complicated to wrap than earlier wheels. I called the "best" custom shop in my area, Adler Mandel in Rockville MD USA and they sent me pics of wheels they custom wrapped. They looked absolutely horrible.

So I just found out after searching ad after ad for a 2018 S63 for sale w/the all leather heated steering wheel, that my car actually doesn't even have a heated leather steering wheel so my own dealer's information was wrong. The parts dept confirmed that the one w/the heated leather wheel won't fit. Ughhh.... So now I'm searching for a 2018 S63 withOUT a heated steering wheel but in leather so I can give my OTHER dealer's parts dept the info to double check on this pricing. Stay tuned...to be continued.
We would like to share some steering wheel info for you.
Previously, steering wheels came complete (excluding airbag) under 1 part number but these new steering wheels are split in many part numbers and you don't have to change it all.
All you need is to replace the steering wheel base.
So, as far as we understand, you want to get rid of alcantara and if perforated leather is fine for you, then you need just this. It's heated, supports distronic, cheaper and you keep the old one.
Please let us know if you are interested. Thank you.
Thanks for the reply. I actually can't get a wheel that is heated since mine isn't, according to my parts dept. They say that I need a NON heated wheel instead. Do you sell that? I live in the US. Would it definitely work on my car and do you have a return policy if my dealer can't get it to work? You can private message me all this I guess if you prefer and then I can give you my direct email. This is great info. I wonder how much in US dollars this solution would be?
You can install a heated steering wheel on cars without, but not the other way around.
It is the steering column that needs to be changed out to make heated steering functional; and by the looks of it, the heated steering is still a turn switch on the left side (like all mercedes have had for the last few cycles).

Cool info. So I only want an OEM steering wheel. Is the steering wheel link above OEM, the same wheel you'd get when buying a new S63? I don't need nor really want a heated steering wheel and would never, ever use this feature. I don't mind freezing cold temps and cars that are super cold. I'm ...a ... man
I am 99% certain that steering wheel work. You just have to transfer all the components over.
Like I said, a heated steering wheel can fit into cars with or without the option from the factory, but a car with heated steering option must use a heated steering wheel. The extra wire (white connector from the heating element) will have no purpose and doesn't impede the function of the other buttons.

Good to know, thanks. I only want a non heated wheel anyway as I love ... the... cold! To clarify, are these wheels OEM? EXACTLY the same as what I'd get it I ordered a new car with the perforated leather S63 wheel?

Mercteil has the correct part for you. No need to connect the heating function. This would be a cheap fix for you. Also, I assume that the price listed still includes VAT, so for export to the US VAT exclusion could reduce the price any a good 20% If so, you have some money to pay for that pricey shipping
Our website prices are shown without VAT.
His car has heated steering wheel option it's what we see in EPC for the car VIN.
Best would be to post his steering column picture here (left side of it) to check for heated steering wheel switch.

Good to know about the VAT.
The VIN will tell for sure but I am surprised if the Dynamica/leather wheels has heat. We have the full dynamica wheel (E63s) but no heating option was possible.

I’ve sort of been following this thread and my thoughts are this: With a $190K car, I would want the exact, correct, factory steering wheel and if it costs $4K, that's what it costs. I would also hope that you could sweet talk the selling dealer into passing it along to you at their cost and to comp the labor to install it. Lastly, you could probably get a decent price for your steering wheel on the secondary market, which would mitigate the cost. That said, you might want to hold onto it, and have it available when resale time comes along as a lot of guys love that wheel. If this one thing is keeping you from completely enjoying your very expensive car, just do it and do it right. What is $4K on a $190K car?

$4k is A LOT TO ME!!! But that's a great idea to plead mercy on the dealership and their pricing. I'm going to try that tack. It would be nice if ANYONE there would return my darn calls. I am starting to hate this dealer.
