2018 S63 vs 2018 GLS 63

Hi Everyone,

i currently have a black 2018 S63 sedan with nut brown interior. I love the car, have every option except for the ceramic brakes. Unfortunately, driving a sedan just isn’t that practical and the trunk is pretty small. I also enjoy being higher above the ground but love the luxury of the car. I’m debating on trading it in for a 2018 GLS 63, and was wondering what you guys think of it.

i did put this in the GLS forum also, but wanted to ask here as well.

I think this a matter of personal choice and other vehicles that you own. Besides the new 2019 S63, I just did Euro Delivery on it a few weeks ago, my wife drives an Acura MDX for carrying stuff, I have a Ford F-150 pickup for hauling stuff and I have a 16 s550 4matic (atleast until I get the s63 stateside). I agree with you on the small trunk especially if you have the high end audio system which I have as well. I know the s class would not work for hauling my sons stuff back and forth to college.

Hope this helps a little but in the end a very personal choice.

By the way here are some picks of new s63 in Germany. Waiting for that ship to arrive any day into Baltimore port. Pics from delivery at the Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen. Did a one on one tour in Affalterbach at AMG and a one on one tour at the s class plant in Sindelfingen. Awesome trip.

Sorry for being off topic but I can tell that I love the S63 already and I am a bit biased for you to keep the s63 but I have other vehicle options and you may not.

Congrats on the beautiful car. Right now it’s a 2 car household and the wife is still stuck in a lease on a c300. I love the luxury and features of this car just need to decide whether a truck or car.

Get rid of the C300 instead. If you keep the S63 and want a GLS, you could also go for a 450 or 550 model. The dealer will likely assist in upgrading you from a C into a GLS to minimize costs. Dealers are in the mood to make a deal right now. You will end up with 2 nicer cars and the loss you would take on the S63 swap will likely be much more significant.

We tried. Problem is she has 14 months left on the lease. There is a 2018 GLS with 6k miles on it. The guys decided he wanted an GLE coupe. At least the first year depreciation is done with and when I trade it in for a new generation s class or GLS I won’t have to much of a large hit.

Makes sense but even a small hit on S63 should exceed the 14 months of a C300 lease payment. That's what? $5-6K? Dealer should at minimum cover 6 months of that as part of the negotiation or?

Have you received a trade in number for the S63? If so, what kind of number are we talking? I seem to recall you have had the car for under a year since I seem to remember your posts when you first got the S63 and you were debating about the cell charger in the back seat—in fact form your post I decided not to order the rear charger with the four seater/tray table combo because of your post. I am guessing you will take a big hit.

Don't get a GLS. It's all new this year, new body, new everything!

Correct. The cell charger was a problem that I learned to just deal with. I’m actually getting 127k for it, so my payments would be reduced a nice number which is a plus. One dealer wanted 115k so that would be a really large hit as 127 isn’t to bad when you factor the reduction of payments till the new models come out. From what I’m hearing, the gls should be worth around 95-98 while the s will most likely be 100-105 by the time the new GLS 63 comes out. The GLS JUST isn’t as luxury at all but practical wise it’s great and I do like the truck.
regarsing my wife’s car, she is going to order the new GLE
