I think this $3K 48V battery is what powers the mild hybrid system (you know, that feature you paid for, but were never told about). These "batteries" include regulating electronics and a temperature stabilizing enclosure that maintains its efficiency. And of course, the car won't run if the mild hybrid system has any faults. Even some dealers have not been aware of these batteries, and have let them deplete while sitting in the showroom. Woe to the new owner who drives off the lot with a crippled mild hybrid. Warranty will cover the replacement unit that's on backorder from Deutschland. Be sure to insist on a premium non mild hybrid loaner while you're waiting.
