Thats a good point, really nobody would ever know. I'll see what the audio guy says when I take it over there to have him put the dashcam in.

I also switched from a LS460. Same opinion.

Wait a week, and I’ll answer the question and show what I did. I think I’ve found the wires, which are different than the 2015 (mine is a 2019 with Burmester non-3D). From my initial test, I think you do not have to create a pass-through.

Great! I look forward to hearing.

What are people doing about the Surround function? I can't decide if it helps or hurts. I played with it for like an hour last night and I have it sounding as good as it can I think. What it lacks is depth and warmth, the highs are pretty clear so I do really think a sub will help.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
I have surround turned off but I am also completely bypassing the factory amp at this point. I now have a NAVTV fiber optic adapter that grabs the raw signal from the head unit and converts it to toslink and RCA signals. I now have the VXi 1000/1 running the 10" W7 sub and a seperate VXi 800/8 to run the other channels. Really brings the factory speakers to life and I can now tune the entire system with the JL Audio TUN software.

All of that sounds complicated lol. I will let my audio shop read this thread!

Another thing I have noticed, on some high vocals I'm getting a little bit of static'y distortion right at the high end, has anybody else experienced that? Audio source is Amazon Music HD attached via USB.

On a 2019 with the base Burmester system.

Here is what I did:
I tapped into the Purple/White and pink wires. These are the speaker level wires for the right woofer. I assume the striped wire is +. I couldn't figure out which were for the left woofer. Note that all paired wires are intertwined, so if you find one then you have the other.
These run directly to the amp which takes speaker level inputs.
I did not run a remote wire to the accessories. If using speaker level inputs, the amp turns on/off with the radio.
Power comes directly from the battery.
There is a single line to the sub. The sub has two terminals, so you have to run a wire to connect both sides (+ to +, and - to -).
The box is home made. The outside dimensions are width: 15" front/ 7" back; Height: 12"; Depth 9". That gets about .5cf inside. I was able to open the wheelwell cover until I put the grill on the sub. Now I have to move the box.
My complete parts list (excluding the box and some wire) is below. The guy at Crutchfield was very helpful. I was logged in online when I called them, and he can put things in your cart as you talk with him.
No additional porting into the cabin.

My settings are shown. With almost no base boost and a small amount of gain, the sound is much more life-like. You can go almost to full volume without any distortion. Bass on the head unit is now at neutral. This is an 8" sub. If someone wanted some booming base, they might want a 10" or more.

If your point of reference is the ML system in the LS460, then yes you need to add a sub. I (and the guy at crutch field) don’t think you need any more than 8” for that. FYI, I started out with much higher settings for the gain and bass boost, but kept turning them down until I got to a more natural sound.

if you find out which wires are for the left woofer, please post them. Although, it’s unlikely that I’m going to go back in there and hook them up.

hey that looks great. Do you find it’s enough bass? Both audio guys I have taken my 2020 to say that putting two subs under that cover wouldn’t be very good

Do you need the MOST processor when the JL amplifier has a DSP built in? Might be a dumb question

Has anybody experienced any issues with amps working in these conditions? Trunk in my S550 during summer is over 70C/158F hot (don't ask me how I know...). So I'm wondering how long will my setup last...

Anyways, I wanted to achieve extra punch and decided to use closed enclosure this time (first time in my life) and I am positively surprised. This setup complements factory ****meister when it comes to lower tones and has this little extra bass I wanted... I overengineered the connection points wanting to have a setup that can be easily removed/disconnected in case I wanted to travel with more bags in the trunk.

I used the hack presented earlier in this thread - picked up the subwoofer signal from blue/blue-white wires directly from the OE amplifier on the left side behind the trunk trim. No issues what so ever. My setup is much simpler though, since I didnt have to use line converter (amp can pick up any input type and also does not require remote to work, so fewer cables, much simpler setup).

This is how it came up:

Pioneer GM-D8601 mono 300W@4Ohm matched with some low-end 30cm pioneer 250W speaker. Super happy with the final result :-)
