Are there any indications that a sporty 223 will be offered? Something akin to an Audi A7 but larger. The current CLS is a dud, too tight, not lux enough.

No. That is where is AMG GT 4door is coming in. Similar to the Panamera with Panamera pricing unfortunately. GT63s are over $200k when nicely optioned.

Why would MB Take a top of the line soft car (S Class) and make it sporty? We have the AMG GT for that. Also, the AMG Variants of the S Class do that too along with a CLS AMG. Too much of near the same car now a days. Hope that the S Class stays a soft and gentle luxo car.

Just viewed an AMG GT63 at my dealer. $153K. Same size as E. OK, but after being in an S, too snug for me (5' 10" 175lb). Only thing noteworthy were wheels. Not enough lux. Not sleek enough, as was the original CLS. Bulbous shape. Nothing says 'wow' about that car. Lots of power but, alas, that's it's only positive IMO. And, as Stream has said, the 550/560 acceleration is more than adequate.

The car is as expected for an AMG car. Snug fit (at least for the seats) is a requirement in a sports car. Which this is unlike the S63.
I personally don't care for this car at all. Has a humpback design like the old Panamera from the side. For $10k more than the E, OK but the premium makes no sense. $153k gets you a lightly optioned mid-model. The only thing that is nice is the rear wheel steering from AMG GTC/R but the W223 S-Class will have that also. MB is late to the party with that anyway.

Never quite understood the 4-door coupe look or appeal. (CLS or AMG GT $-Door) Perhaps i'm old school. I like a 4 door sedan to be large, easy Ingress and Egress, comfortable and yes, a little softer. And the S-Coupe to be somewhat the same only slightly smaller and sportier. And I like a sports car to be a sports car. AMG GT or Porsche 911s. I can also see the appeal of the S63. All the comforts and luxury of a large luxury sedan plus performance. But the CLS and the new AMG GT 4 door look funny to me, aren't easy to get in and out of, are cramped inside and the ride is mediocre at best, and yet they ar very expensive. Not a winning formula in my opinion. Am I wrong?

What I’m talking about is a four door S with a sporty front, star in the grill and a swoopy roof line. To differentiate it from the staid model. Keep the lux cabin and suspension. There’s money to be made here, MB.

Panamera cheaper than AMG GT 4

I may be wrong, but the Panamera is below the price of a Base AMG GT4..I had to sell my Panamera in 2015 as Reliability issues with Engine Control Module and Porsche not willing to give me 100K mile warranty..2015 S Euro-delivery is WAY more reliable and comfortable.

Various MB
A completely new body style for the S class would not have a business case. Though, do not be surprised with future hybrid offerings on the S platform that push previous performance limits. AMG developed hybrid powertrains are going to be lethal.

No need to do that considering the fact that S Class has been leading its own class since it was launched .You can also do this in other model line up in Mercedes-Benz but not in S Class

I was at my dealer for service and this car caught my eye. Gee, a BRIGHT RED paint job and NO #%@#$&*(%$#@ Panorama Roof! I like it, but I don’t think it will ride like my S560.

I agree. My S560 is the best, most comfortable car I have ever owned. If they would just allow us more personalization, it would be perfect.
