Replacing a lost Smart Key FOB
I lost one of my Smart Key Fobs for my 2018 S450. The dealer is quoting me between $800-1k to replace the smart key fob. Does anybody know of any cheaper ways to replace the key fob? Can I buy a used one on EBAY and have it reprogrammed?
I can't seem to find anyone else who has had this issue with the W222 sections.
Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated.

Dealer only, check with several dealers on pricing. See attachment.

Thank you. I reached out to 7 of my local dealers and the Key Fob / Blade ranges from $605 to $720.
I managed to get 10% off from the cheapest option of $605 bringing my total to $545 + Tax.
On top of that, each dealer quoted the programming at 1 hour of labor. Ranging from $116-$172 per hour. Definitely, a costly mistake to lose a key fob.

2015 S550
damn, I paid ~450 for a missing FOB when I purchased my 2015 S550 and I thought that already was a total rip off! That was both for the fob and the programming fee. I found out that the price on FOB and the programming fee varied between dealers. So I bought the fob at the cheapest dealer and had it programmed at one that charged the least to program....

got my Ferrari Modena with only one key, Could only " replace the computer" to get more keys. It was easier to be paranoid about the key than pay for that.

Use FCP Euro. Lifetime warrantee, even on wiper blades. If you feel they streak after 1 year, give them a call, fill out the warrantee sheet, they ship you a new pair. No Questions Asked.... Believe it or not, they warrantee Oil.... Don't take my work for it... If they sell it, they have a LIFETIME warrantee on it.

Just like cell phones have the "where is my phone" app, key fobs should have that ability/program included in the price of the key. I might just add car key fobs to my homeowners/renters insurance plan. I have my computers, trumpet, cell phones and other valuables listed, why not see if a key fob could be added? The insurance is dirt cheap.

Lost a set of keys one late Winter and went 9 months and lost all hope. That next Fall when the first cold snap arrived I put on the coat I hadn’t worn for 9 months and guess what?😊
PS- They sell small sensors that fit a key fob to find it when they are lost. Don’t remember the range though.....

Not the first time we told the Germans NUTS! In memory of a brave generation, Dad was in the 4th Infantry and fought through the Bulge.

apple has these new tracking fobs you can have on your keychain so you never lose it. I forget what they are called but I have 1 key (when the dealer told me there was two) and I am getting one of those trackers asap!!

This may have already been mentioned earlier in the thread or some other thread but it would be awesome if we could program our smart phones to operate as keys. The originals could be left in the drawer in the house in a safe place. They have them for opening your front doors of the house, why not to start your car?

In a Key Fob related question I received a "Replace Key Fob Battery" message the other day. I replaced the battery and everything is working fine but the message is still appearing. I have been trying to figure out how to clear the message but no luck. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
