The New S560 Grill?!?!?
I was at the dealership the other day (Maybe buying a GLC 43 Coupe), but I spotted the new S560. I had to do a double take because at first I thought it was a Cadillac. What the heck are they doing with the ugly glass stuff on the front grill? It must have function, because it's totally out of place. I can't see beyond it. They destroyed the look of the front end with some crappy plastic. I swear someone at MB must've worried it looked like the Cadillac logo, no?

oh. ok. i see what you mean now. that's not 'glass' and is very functional for the distronic+, other self-driving features and houses the 360d camera (when you put the car in reverse, one of those little doors pops open and the camera is deployed); quite clever actually. this grille was used on the 600s from '14 until now and benzo now uses them from '18 onwards on all s-class cars. the shield really isn't that awful ,,,

Wow. Complaint on the first post...
I guess the OP hasn't seen any S-Class with Distronic for the last 12 years or so. That plastic was even on the W221 S-Class grill.

Not sure what the drama is; the tech requires part of it to be like that. Only the coupes can hide the radar behind the star.

Most W222 owners can find something they don't care for in the design. I don't like the black, glass roof. However, I believe that most owners, like myself, get past those fairly insignificant issues, and absolutely LOVE their cars. The Driver's Assistance Package, of which the Distronic System is included, IMHO, is "THE," all time, greatest safety system to ever be offered on any car. If I have to put up with a little, square piece of plastic on the grill, it is an absolute non-issue to me. I would not wish to own any car without this marvelous system.

There are other places where MB could have put front sensors, for instance Tesla's autopilot sensors don't affect the look of the grille:

Alright you can like the car and still criticize parts of it. It does look out of place and its smack in the middle of the front of the car. Complain or whatever you want to call it is what makes innovation and improvements to design. I don't think anybody is saying they actually like it as a designer feature. It's takes away from the grill which is a huge feature of the car and it can be improved upon.
The "S" needs a redesign its old and blending in way too much. I sold my 750i and now driving the wife 550 and will say I like it better but it is boring and the car doesn't turn a single head.

The only sedan recognized as special would be a RR Phantom.
Sign of the times, not design. These days, Lambos are head turners. Even Ferrari is now considered to be for “old” guys.

I believe that the only folks who notice my “Plain Jane” S560, are those who aspire to own one. I NOTICE it and I’m the only one who matters.
