Spark plug & Transmission fluid replacement

Car has 28k on it and is approaching 5 years of age. According to the 2015 maintenance booklet, spark plugs are due 46.5k or 4 years and transmission fluid is 62k or 5 years. Given the low mileage, is it still required? I have no issue getting it done but it seems the time interval is short. Thanks.

I'd wait for the mileage on the plugs. Trans fluid is a bit more important and i'd be tempted to suggest replacing it anyway. The 722.9 trans is great when maintained right but **** fluid can ruin one, and it's too cheap to mess with IMO. Fluid breaks down with age/temperature, and trans fluid is exposed to a lot of wear in normal driving cycles. Plugs only very slightly erode with every firing event and have a pretty good lifespan anyway, I think the 50k is probably premature on them based on the conditions of ones I've pulled out. The trans fluid at your age will NOT look like new fluid.

I just picked up my 2015 from the dealer tonight. It was in for the A5 service. At least on the 279 engine a trans fluid change is not part of the A5 service, plugs are. Mine has 35,000 miles, I just let them do it. Labor and parts for the 24 plugs were less than $1,000.

My 16 Maybach has 65,000 miles on the original 24 plugs. I removed several of them at 50,000 miles and they looked like NEW. There was no wear on them whatsever. I ended up deffering the change till say about 90,000 miles.

Funny thing is the spark plugs are the only item that I have differed maintenance on. Everything else I have done myself.

I did change the trans filter and half the fluid (pan drop since my car does not have a plug in the torque converter). I did this at 60000 miles. It was not that hard but you need a scan tool that shows trans fluid temperature and a few inexpensive tools to do it.

I may hold off on the spark plugs - I don’t see any major issue by doing this especially with low miles. The fluid on the other hand makes sense as it can get dirty.

I would do the trans fluid without an reservation. Every Mercedes I have ever seen with trans issues did not do the proper service interval, procedure, or proper fluid. Its an important service for a trouble free life. I wouldn't worry about the plugs as many have said they regret it when they take out near perfect plugs. They will let you know if needed and when, but would count on 80-90K.
