Active seats stopped funtioning

2015 s550 W222. Active seats have stopped functioning. Is a fuse blown? Has a hose disconnected? Thanks

See if massage is working. If not, could be pneumatic pump. I recently had mine replaced under 3rd party extended warranty and it was about $1,300.

Mine was the pump as well. For me it was $750 for the pump from the dealer and $100 to install it by my local mechanic.

Since being paid directly by 3rd party warranty, I noticed there was a reminder on the invoice not to discount labor. I was just billed the deductible.

Sorry couldn’t give you an easy solution. It seems that there are no easy solutions with the W222. Too many electronic components and ECUs. If you want to save money, you could always try to find a rebuilt or used pump online. I watched my Mechanic replace mine. It looked pretty straight forward. Basically a direct replacement plug and play situation.

As far as I remember (please correct me if I’m wrong - there are so many super knowledgeable and helpful people here), you have to remove the silver trunk skid plate, pull back the trunk lining on the left hand drivers side to expose the pump. Few torx screws and 2 plugs.

Hey, if you don’t mind me asking, which 3rd party warranty are you using? My CPO warranty just expired a few months ago and with in weeks, my pump fails. Thanks in advance.

I just pulled fuses 421 and 490 both labeled "pneumatic pump"(found this on a warranty fix receipt posted on this website by someone who had a MB dealership troubleshoot and fix the same issue). The dealer listed that he pulled both fuses 1st, checked seat function ..didn't work.. then checked current to the relays.. current was good..and then replaced pump deemed faulty. I'll see if a fuse pull did the job in the morning. Someone else posted re: fixing their own leak found in the seatback. Fixed the leak themselves (hose) then pulled the fuse to reset pump. Seats worked fine. So if I have a leak and the pump is shutting down to avoid burn up.. the seats should function again after fuse pull, then if there is a leak or the pump is faulty it will shutdown again. Of course if the pump is already bad the fuse pull will accomplish nothing but I figured it was the place to start.

Mine is a special situation. In April I bought a 15 S550 from an elderly friend/client that due to health issues only had 6,200 miles on it, but was placed in service in Sept 2014 so out of warranty. The two dealers whose warranties are most often mentioned on this site suggested Fidelity Platinum. This warranty covers everything, except...., mainly just maintenance items. I have other vehicles so I expect to drive the S550 6,000-8,000 miles per year. I negotiated at a local MB dealer an 8 yr/80,000 mile warranty with $250 deductible for 4k, which was an easy decision for me. Warranty pricing seems to be based on vehicle mileage when warranty purchased.

Long answer, but Fidelity Platinum. They have other levels of coverage as well. I was told the Fidelity warranty can be purchased from any dealer with relationship with the company, not just MB dealers.

Thanks, I’ll give them a try.

Thanks for the heads up. I did the fuse pull, no luck. Just to clarify, do you have the active seats and if so did that stop working as well?

Fidelity is crazy $$$. I was quoted 15k when my car only had 23k on it. It is only reasonable when you have SUPER low miles.

So, in most cases it's a software update^^? If it is a pump failure what is causing this ? TIA T

Reference bulletins LI91.25-P-065343, LI91.25-P-058219, and LI91.25-P-059380. Normally bulletins are only covered under warranty however, if 065343 and/or 058219 are found to be the cause argue for MBUSA goodwill assistance for diagnostics/update since update corrects malfunctioning software installed at production. 059380 may not qualify for assistance, note MBUSA should favorably consider assistance if vehicle was purchased and serviced through MB dealership.

Brought Tilda (MY 15 S550) over to Europeon Auto Tech where they ran an SDS (Star Diagnostic Scanner). I'll be bringing Tilda back for more tests to get to the root of the problem before replacing the pneumatic pump(?) Tilda has only 22,xxx miles and this seems to be one of the weak links of these cars after seeing many other's having similar issues. A friend had similar issues with both his W220 & W221's so you think MB would have figured this out by now. T
