I felt that way as well - though I went to see it in person in the showroom. The 7s without an M Package - it looks like a chipmunk grinning. With the M package - the larger air-dams "almost" balance it out.

I think it will be alright with the colors. I know the Chinese market is going to love it - as they take about 40% of the 7 series production.

I have a feeling they are trying to capture the appeal of Bentley and Rolls drivers which have the large Chrome grille up front. When you compare to the others - its more understandable.

Actually, toying with the idea of building an XJ Coupe with a V12 and manual, a full build restomod with modern tech underneath but absolutely original stock visuals ( except wider wheels).
Brings back memories! This was one of the first cars we had. XJ12 coupe, Series 2, dark red (burgundy?) with black vinyl top, black leather interior with spoke wheels.
That car was beautiful to drive and to look at but an absolute nightmare to keep.
They sold used for next to nothing due to their horrible reliability, especially the 12 cylinder models.
Supreme cruiser though...

A car
The 7 series interior seemed cheap to me. Almost everywhere I looked (that most people don't), the 7 looked like a hack job. Then again I never paid attention to the 7 before so unsure how they changed over the years.

To me, the 7 is the most inferior flagship vehicle that the German 3 create, from an interior perspective, and I'd even buy the G90 over the 7 series.

Plus, it rides rough, even on comfort plus mode, when compared to the other vehicles (except the Lexus which rides the worst of the bunch.)

Gorgeous Gorgeous Gorgeous Cars. Those were stately in the same way a Bentley was. Mechanical nightmares - two of my friends had Jags in the 90s. An XJ6 and an XJS V12. I was really just a kid at the time but understood it was something special. It always felt like a treat to be driven in the XJ. I always compared it to my dad's toyota at the time and wondered why our didn't have the same "occasion" to it.

My friends cars looked like these:
Such absolute beauties. I often wonder - how the new Jaguar XJ even remotely looks like a Jaguar....

Jaguar, even with all it's faults and poor reliability, was so gorgeous and different then the competition that it made it extremely desirable and people would overlook those things and still buy them.
In most cases, the "Want" was so powerful that it trumped the fear of troublesome maintenance.
With the introduction of the current line of cars (the post XJ Era as I don't look at the current car as "XJ"), Jaguar has lost that desirability factor, cars are reliable now but very few people want to own them.

The new XJ you are quite right - is not an XJ , or a Jaguar for that matter. I don't know what it is. They took the shape of a banana.

The other beauty out of Britain which was a nightmare to own was the Lotus Esprit (think Pretty Woman). They don't make cars like this anymore. Modernity really struck at the heart of the auto industry. Very few cars of today (within reach) have that "Must have" :factor.

I had a Series III XJ6, it was beautiful inside and out, with a comfortable ride.

The engine and electrical systems, however, could not be made reliable. One example is the engine front timing cover - the combination of sealing interfaces and material combinations resulted in a fundamentally unreliable design. There are plenty of other examples similar to this.

I am just ready to pull the trigger on a 2020 BMW M760i. I think the interior of this will look a lot better than the upcoming S W223 that's been shown in renderings and spypics. Just my opinion of course. (And this from someone who had a W140 W220 W221 and W222.

Love the Tanzanite Blue with Amarone Brown combination. Is at top of my color spec list for next one.

Just know it does not look that bright in person. We had them bring an X5 out with that color and it was more like Navy with purple. This was taken in direct sunlight. In darker light - the car is dark navy.

There was a recent thread here, from a fellow who just got back into a W222, after a stint with a late model 7 Series. Compared to the S Class seats, he described the BMW’s as “church pews.” We must hand it to MB, the S Class seats are VERY comfortable. As for exterior appearance, the previous 7, with the smaller grills, was MUCH better looking, IMO. I liked the looks of that car much more than my S560. The gigantic grills, to me, are a huge turn-off, and knowing it was done to attract the Chinese, makes it even worse for me. Sorry, no new 7 for me. They should have made the gaudy grills optional, for show-offs and folks with poor taste.

There is a chunk of real estate between the bottom of the lights and top of intakes. Lights look disproportionate, should be larger IMO.

I was very impressed by the looks of the new BMW 7 and the attractive lease special. I test drove the 750, it drives smooth but the build quality and materials are atrocious. A little better than a 3 series
Im not a Mercedes fanboy, but MB is far superior.

I think I will stick to my S63 longer then usual, most likely through the end of factory warranty.
Only thing left is the turbo upgrade from Renntech next month when I’m back from Italy.

I believe you are renting the new Bentley at that time. Please post your feedback about the car. Thanks!

Is the W223 coming out this year or what? If not I'm going to get a Panamera and come back when it does. Would hate to leave s-class but I don't see any other option in the same price range.

@Chucky3000 What are you doing here ? I thought you sold out to Porsche a few years ago,

P.S. BMW is garbage. We love our S here.

I agree. I once had a disagreement with someone who owned a 750Li from 2014 and my father bought one from that year - the individual edition. Upgraded paint, and an interior that rivaled rolls royce. When we went to sit in my friends - it was as you said - basically a piece of plastic. It's a case of if you are willing to pay a lot more - you can get a proper high end luxury german car. I sat in a 2020 BMW 750Li with individual spec in a dealership a few weeks back - and the interior was TOP NOTCH luxury. Every surface was beautiful. They had a "standard" version as well - and the same issue - a serious downgrade in luxury.
