Does Geography Affect Air-ride Suspension Failures?

What fails on the air -ride suspensions and why?

Is it caused by exposure to wintry weather (road salt) or dry low humidity regions or high humidity regions, warm or cold climates?

I think a poll of where owners live, that have had air-ride issues would be interesting to see if geographic regions matter. I need an assist in creating a poll though......

Any thoughts?

I have not noticed a unusual amount of folks on this site stating suspension problems. In fact I cannot remember any in the last three years. Have I been asleep?

There was a Merc CLS in a parked building I lived in for 15 months that sat there for about 3 months slowly dropping down. It eventually had to be towed--which was a job based on the lack or ceiling height and tight quarters in the parking high rise.

I suspect a good number of the problems occur when the car is NOT used enough.

To my understanding it's usually a piston or the rubber bladder itself (my cousin's just failed and it was both), probably caused by fatigue and exposure. I have to believe a car that spends 90% of the time in a garage is less likely to develop issues than a car parked in extremes year after year.

This is kind of what I was wondering thanks. Normal wear and tear? Exposure ? Did he operate the car in wintry / road salt locale?

I read forum input on whether to buy an extended warranty or not and that is where I saw frequent mention of air suspension issues.

Yes normal. Mid Atlantic winters (and summers). Daily driver. No garage.

Guten tag OnlyGerman!

Would you mind telling us why they failed, how many miles when they failed and what year your S Class is please? Is it driven in winter weather?

Dankeschön for your replay!

It had around 23k on it and it is a 2015. The rears were making noise then shorty after the fronts starting being very harsh. It was all replaced under factory warranty. My third party warranty has started covering air suspension struts now so if they fail again, so no worries there again. It is no longer driver in winter weather, car is in FL now.

Wow! That's low miles and not old at all. Do you know exactly why they failed and what exactly failed?

Polls? To quantify a non-existing problem?
Please take a few minutes to search through the forum to recognize that this has been a non-issue so far. Can it happen? Of course. Virtually all components can/will fail eventually. The question is wether any problem is pervasive or a common issue. The car is now in its 7th year and the reliability of the W222 has been impressive. The W220 has countless thousands at that time...
