Is the Facelift w222 worth the upgrade?
I am looking at trading my 2015 S550 in for a 2018/2019 S560 until the new S (w223) becomes CPO in a 2-3 years or so... However, I am wondering if the upgrade from the pre-facelift to facelift is worth going through the whole car buying process. I know some of you guys made this transition already, so I would love to know some key differences that would make me want to upgrade ASAP. I have a question, how different is the 4.0 vs 4.6 v8? I do know a negative is they cheaped out on the door hinges and made them like normal car hinges. Thanks!

In my opinion, if you like the car you already have, and it has been reliable and shows no indication of having problems, AND you have a plan on picking up a CPO of the subsequent generation; Then stick with what you have--unless you just want to blow some dough.

Well, my car is in the dealer as we speak... my a/c keeps going out and this is the third time it has been in the dealer. I have had my loaner this time for a week and the last time it was in I had a loaner for 2 weeks. Other than that, she's fine. I am interested in a change to tie me over until I get a w223 CPO. Also, the trade will be pretty even financially.

Sounds like you’ve already made up your mind to do it (or logically most of the way there...) I’d say go for it. The 4.0 with 9 speed are better, the tech is better, and if you take a little time to look for the right one, you can correct a lot of the features you might have felt you’d missed out on with the current car.

I traded my 2015 S550 for a 2018 S560. Night and Day difference. Different cars. 560 is better in every way. The MBC is a must IMO, the ride is incredible and the curve feature that leans in like a motorcycle is fabulous. More power and easy steady acceleration behaves like a V12, very fast car. Trade in 550 for a 560, you won't regret it

The 9 sp makes the biggest difference for the better. Smoother. Less hunting for the right gear in any situation, hence puts more of the power to use, which highlights the newer engine that seems to ave more grunt. Just smother and more powerful at the same time.

Steinhart in post #9 did the same thing you’re thinking, and articulated it very nicely.

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
I feel that my 2018 S560 is much better—in many ways—compared to my previous 2015 S550. The engine is smoother, sounds better and feels more powerful. The 9-speed transmission, to me, is day & night better. The Magic Body Control option works way better and the overall ride seems smoother, more buttoned down, for lack of a better term.
I will say that I truly miss the CD Changer and the reduced trunk space in the newer car is annoying.

I mean what I owe on the car and my trade-in value is such a way that I break even(or gain a little cash). So I can go into a 2018 with my trade-in without a down payment and just the value of my 2015 and keep the same monthly note and pick up a warranty. Because of the issues I have with my car, I am slightly afraid to have it outside of the warranty.

Update: the facelift car is beautiful. Looks like I’ll be going with a 450 because it felt just as fast and smoother as my 550. I’ll Add some pics of the car my son took. Thank you guys for the help.
