ECO Start/Stop Engine Function !!!
How often does your ECO Engine Start/Stop function works on your car? 90% of my drive is in city so am not supersized that mine never worked for the past 60 days!|
My question is, for those who have combined city/highway drive, do you really see this function works on daily bases or does it hardly work also on your car?
I know there is a bunch of checkpoints before it can work, but am asking in general regardless... ?

Mine hasn't worked since I had a long freeway drive about a month ago. It only seems to work after a long (100 miles +) high speed drive. I suspect aux battery charge but that is just suspicion, no codes from the dealer. And on the last service when I asked them to check it they said the codes were for my hood not completely closed! That was a strange one that even the service guys couldn't understand.
My eco stop start stopped working after a little bit, the dealer took a look at the battery and that was the first thing.
It's a shame there are no inboard diagnostics for or voltage measuring for the batteries and even something as simple as the oil level... Even a Chevy Cruz has the latter...

Ask them to do midtronics aux battery test. If it fails then that's the root of your problem.

anyway i think it’s okay cause it always works after highway driving but it a shame it needs highway drive only to charge!!

Actually I totally disagree as in my 16 bmw 750 I barely even knew it had even happened. I have complained about it forever in the S550 and wish there was a way to shut it off. Having to remember to press that button is ridiculous in a car of that price point.
Maybe it maters car to car but in the BMW I swear i had to look at the tach to know it even occurred in the Benz you feel it kick in when the car restarts.

The ECO start/stop works all the time on all three of my AMG’s if I forget to push the off button. Contrary to other experience I find the shutoff and restart more noticeable in the BMW than the Mercedes. But I am not comparing similar cars. I am driven frequently to the airport in a new BMW740. I can tell instantly when the engine starts or stops and as a passenger it is annoying. On mine the stop is harder to tell but I am comparing a V12 in the AMG to a six in the the 740.

I do believe it is not the same in each car but a v12 is a smoother engine in every way so I would assume starting it would be smoother in general to a s550.
In any event there should be a easier defeat switch instead of having to push each time. Not a big deal if not a daily ride but if your in and out of car it gets annoying.
