History of the Mercedes S-Class
By William Mutugi
Here's how far the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has come.
This one defined and dominated an era and was beyond legendary. Things got dicey at the end of it's career with the 1988 V12 BMW 750iL and 1990 LS400, but still this car was a absolute king of the road. No car could carry dictators in better comfort on rough roads in better safety. They loved it. The world and buyers love it.
This one (which I own) is the most arrogant, over engineered sedan that Mercedes had made since the 600 (W100) of the 70's. This car was an over response to BMW and Lexus and pretty much shaded those cars in many ways good and bad. Nothing like it has been built since. The Maybachs from 2004-2012 was also based on the W140 due to it's robust build. Sigh..........
