2017 S550 CPO negotiations
So I finally found a car I like with options I want. Dealer asking $59,800 and I inquired about certifying. today dealer said it would cost $7,000 to certify because front and rear brakes are “below 50%” and one of the hooks for the floor mat has broken off which would cost another $1,000! Sounds like a rip off to me! I think I’ll buy as is and try to negotiate price down. I’m sure I can get these items fixed for less than $7k somewhere else. Thoughts?

I did front and rear brakes on my 2015 this year for around 800 dollars in parts. Front and back with all new rotors, pads and all the rest. Unless you have the Carbon Ceramics brakes there is no way they are 7K. 2.5K at most at the stealership.

Is it even worth trying to negotiate for CPO? Or should I buy car as is with remainder of factory warranty and do brakes myself later, either at dealer or Indy?

This. As many others on here advised you in your other post, don’t worry about the 36K miles. Buy the car, drive until it truly needs brakes, then do them then. Enjoy it bud.

If it is a 2017 isn't it still under original 4 year warranty? If it is then you can buy the Mercedes extended warranty (which is better/longer than CPO, and will be less than $7k) anytime from any dealer up until the warranty expires. See the warranty section here for Jeff or Cassandra's contact info to get a good deal on these.
You would be on your own for brakes since they are a wear and tear item, but they aren't that expensive, and dealers frequently state they are more worn than they are since it is an easy money making job.
The clip on the floor could be fixed under warranty or I'd make the dealer do it as part of the sale.

They are obviously joking about the $7k. Full brakes for CPO will cost them about $1k or so and the carpet piece would not be a CPO failure. Likely a $5 part. Tell them that you take the car for that price if CPO'd. I assume you haven't started negotiating yet?
Also, you can simply take the car non-CPO and maintain the factory warranty but as a 2nd buyer can't add extended warranty post the factory warranty (unless you have a great dealer relationship). MB changed their program.
This car will be low risk with that mileage and you have enough time to get anything taken care of under factory warranty before the time is up. Push for free CPO first though...

That's a well optioned car.
let your driving style/environment guide your waranty choice.
MB brakes are not exotic. Akebonos, rotors and sensors at a pro shop easily less than $1,500/1,000.
Be aure and verify service records.
good luck.
