You gotta pay attention to what brand they're talking about now since they've splintered the S_Class off into AMG, Maybach etc. The S650 just got mild facelift and it keeps the V12.

MB will continue to push it's sub-brands AMG and Maybach. AMG, along with the G-Wagon are the companies cash cow and to a lesser extend, Maybach (which is highly profitable in China).
Whatever happens with AMG may not be relevant to the Mercedes brand and visa-versa.

) but AMG may likely go for the G73 instead...

Another thing, AMG will continue hand assembled production of the new V12, Pagani is getting their own customized version, not sure yet whether they will also supply Maybach or it will be a separate facility (although that would not make sense).

Other maintenance will be engine and transmission mounts around the same time due to these very heavy high torque engines. Can be pricey based on the model; on the SL the engine had to come out

Car was in excellent condition and looked better then most cars with 30k miles, beautifully maintained and came with a brick thick stack of service records.
A year later and the car has 164k miles and cost him about $4k in service expenses.
This October, I was with my wife at Pagani factory and Horacio Pagani showed us his first Zonda (built in 1999 that he still uses) with over 500k miles (AMG V12 with about 550HP).
Point is, these are great engines but have to be religiously maintained because of their complexity.
