I saw that too. Thankfully there is still hope. They haven't written it off completely.

Well, I have mentioned the fact they were developing a new V12 over a month ago and was ridiculed by some (was told about it by Pagani himself).
Thank you for confirming that.

Not sure why this is news. Mercedes said that Maybach would continue with the V12 a long time ago. They said that the core Mercedes and AMG brands with done with the V12.

It's quite obvious some of us were not aware of this fact. Hence "it's news" to us.

Financially it probably doesn't make much sense. But if there's a market for it... then let them make it! Certainly not my cup of tea as performance and reliability of turbo/supercharged V8 is not in question. I'd hate to try to reach the rear-most spark plugs.

Agreed. They went to the trouble of making a "final edition S65" and the magazine editors also declared the V-12 dead (with no mention of the Maybach keeping it). https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...n-photos-info/

Yeah Mercedes-AMG is dropping the V12. There are other articles stating that Maybach was keeping the V12 over a year ago, directly from the people in charge:

Plus, Moers told Car and Driver that AMG "will continue to build the engine for other sub-brands" too. That means this V12 should live on in the Mercedes-Maybach S650 for the foreseeable future.
https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...-s65-sl65-g65/

You gotta pay attention to what brand they're talking about now since they've splintered the S_Class off into AMG, Maybach etc. The S650 just got mild facelift and it keeps the V12.

This...

MB will continue to push it's sub-brands AMG and Maybach. AMG, along with the G-Wagon are the companies cash cow and to a lesser extend, Maybach (which is highly profitable in China).
Whatever happens with AMG may not be relevant to the Mercedes brand and visa-versa.

The dealer here is even saying that there will be another G65 AMG. I don't know what to make of that though.

This is not very likely unless in Maybach G-wagon dress. Brabus of course has already shoe-horned the old V12 in the new W463 (for a measly $650k of course ) but AMG may likely go for the G73 instead...

As far as I know the next in line is a G73 Hybrid, no G65 planned.
Another thing, AMG will continue hand assembled production of the new V12, Pagani is getting their own customized version, not sure yet whether they will also supply Maybach or it will be a separate facility (although that would not make sense).

Love the v12 in my car. Its fantastic. Only complaint is the 24 spark plugs at 15 dollars each. Oh well.

Has anyone here put a lot of miles on a MB V12? Like over 100K?

Most we had was just under 80k miles on our SL. That engine was the M275 while the W222 uses the M277 engine which was a technical update, that engine eliminated the need for the costly coil pack replacements (up to $4k a pair) which were considered maintenance at 50/60k miles before. Engines are lovely, very reliable dinosaurs that will it make easily past the 300k mile mark.
Other maintenance will be engine and transmission mounts around the same time due to these very heavy high torque engines. Can be pricey based on the model; on the SL the engine had to come out

I have 50,000 miles on my CL600. I put close to 80,000 on my 96 600SL with the M120 Engine. No major issues.

One of my managers bought a 2006 S65 with 155k miles.
Car was in excellent condition and looked better then most cars with 30k miles, beautifully maintained and came with a brick thick stack of service records.
A year later and the car has 164k miles and cost him about $4k in service expenses.
This October, I was with my wife at Pagani factory and Horacio Pagani showed us his first Zonda (built in 1999 that he still uses) with over 500k miles (AMG V12 with about 550HP).
Point is, these are great engines but have to be religiously maintained because of their complexity.
