Spare Tire

Hi all, I'm shopping for and learning about W222s ... went to look at one and the owner told me all W222s came originally with run-flats and that there is not even a place in the car where a spare could be stored, whether a 'compact', 'inflatable', etc.

I've read posts here where people have replaced run-flats with regular tires and wondering what if any plans they made for a spare tire.

Hey Tom, Check out posts 51 & 52:https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...8-tilda-3.html

W221 spare tire, jack, etc., can be found on eBay:

As mentioned above there are a lot of chats about this issue, I actually bought a W221 19" space saver and also you will need the shorter wheel nuts to go with it, I have a feeling they are 27mm but someone may confirm that as mine are in the car at the moment.
I actually got myself a small trolley jack and that fits under the boot/trunk floor.
You will need the 17mm socket wrench as well.
The wheel and tyre is in a wheel bag and has to sit in the boot, annoying but I do not want to be caught out if I have a burst or a split ( tyre glue cannot help with a gash in the tyre )

My plan for a spare tire is called AAA and a cell phone.
In the long run, its a lot lighter and leaves the trunk with room for "stuff".

If you never leave a metro area, that will probably work. If, however, you like getting out into the countryside, should a road hazard happen to SHRED your run flat or conventional tire, get ready for a ride in the cab of a tow truck. Should family members be with you at the time, better hope there is a taxi, Uber, etc. available. Once you get to a local fillin’ station, good luck with them having a tire that will fit your “exotic” car. Bottom line: there is absolutely, positively no substitute for a spare (hopefully full size) in the trunk.

Yep^^We went with the W221 spare, etc., as suggested on this forum. We throw the spare in the boot for mid-long road trips. We do have AAA but at times there is no cell service so your on your own. T

I understand the risk, but I have not had a flat while driving in over 30 years.

Also note. If you put a spare in the trunk, you necessarily have to put some of the luggage in the rear seats.

Yes, it’s a pain in the ***, I freely admit it. But I have had a flat or two. I was also a Boy Scout: “Be prepared, be prepared, always be prepared.”

Wife & I went on an approx. 1,700 road trip a few months back. No cell signal on part of the trip...mostly in the mountains of NE AZ and So. CO. Was surprised at what would easily fit in the boot with the spare tire present...med & large suitcases, two folding chairs, sunshade, car wash products, towels, etc. Typically keep golf clubs in there when home and they fit fine...as long as the driver is taken out of the golf bag and placed horizontaly. Have had plenty of flat tires over the years...mostly screws and roofing nails.YMMV T

Talking with someone else who thought Mercedes offers a kit of some kind that makes room for a spare under the trunk floor? Anyone heard of this?

The “kit” is a set of hold down straps and a cover for the spare. The spare still sits on TOP of the trunk floor. There is no room to put even a compact spare under the trunk floor.

Tom, Not enough room under under the trunk floor for a full or space saver spare. T

You have a P/N for that kit? Also, is this the exact same that that MB uses possibly https://extremewheels.com/product/co...55-70r19-113m/

No part number, sorry. I don’t use it myself, I just leave the spare sitting in my trunk, uncovered. My spare came out of a 2013 W221 S550. It was never used and I bought it on eBay.

1. Did you ever consider a Cover?
Amazon Amazon

2. I have seen the e-bay links, but do you know if there is a complete "Parts List" of all items for Spare?
Tire, Jack, Lug nuts, Insert in Tire Well to hold Jack?

3. Will the W221 fit W222 with AMG Sport Pkg?

4. Have you tested Fitment of Spare on the Front and Rear?

5. I have a Net that attached to those 4 Plastic connectors on the floor of the trunk. Tire would fit nice under there also.

6. Is this the same one as yours? https://extremewheels.com/product/co...55-70r19-113m/

Thanks !

I have the 2015 S500 AMG line with 19" wheels and a 19" spacesaver spare does fit front and rear, I did have to buy shorter wheel bolts, they are 27mm long I think. I bought a 17mm socket and wheel wrench and added a small trolley jack and "puck" for lifting the car as it fitted in the space under the boot floor with no problems. The main wheel sits in a bag on the boot floor.

Thanks Streamliner for the reply. I have an opportunity to possibly compare NRF on my car. I have 2 complete sets of OEM rims. If I go with NRF, I would absolutely be purchasing a spare. I don't have the Fridge, so the spare would be fine with me. I'm curious if anyone has used This Product:
