S350d or S500

S350d or S500
Moving to Spain in two weeks, looking to purchase a S class either the 350d or the 550 which is the better choice? Not familiar with Mercedes Diesel engines but they seem to be very popular in Europe.

2015 S500, 2016 GL63 AMG
I bought my first S class last February and was initially looking at the 350d, I was searching Auto Trader and ebay and Mercedes used cars for a couple of weeks. I found that used diesel cars were nearly all black with black interiors, something that I did not want.
Looking at various options as well I then realised that the S500 generally was better equipped and I went to look at a one private owner 2015 model in Diamond Silver with a lovely crystal grey and seashell grey colour interior, absolutely stunning ! The V8 is such a smooth quiet engine, I have even had people comment as to whether it was electric haha.
It was a Mercedes approved used car so all the history and a good warranty and great service from the garage as well.
One thing that I wanted to make sure I had was the ordinary rear seat and not the luxury rear seat options, this was because I tend to carry 3 people in the back sometimes and I wanted the middle seat to be more comfortable, I did go and sit in the middle seat of a couple of cars myself to help me make this decision.
It will use more fuel but times are changing and I figured petrol was the way to move forward now as well.
I think you should go and drive both cars, it is a big decision to make.
I am thrilled with my choice.

The S500 is a great choice as it’s an inline 6 plus mild hybrid. The S350 would have cheaper running costs though, and people may not resent it as much. There is also a plug-in S500e as well.
